Dvd burner reading blank dvds as cd????

I have a pioneer dvr-a09. been burning dvd files to blank dvds with it. Got done burning one movie to a blank dvd, then after that and always now when I put a new blank dvd+r or dvd rw, it won't read it as a dvd and reads it as a cd. My roommie said maybe there was a virus somewhere thats messing up the drivers. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I tried updating drivers with the install cd, nothing. Do I need to unplug the dvd player and install that again? I don't know.

If it's on an XP machine you shouldn't even need drivers... Should you? I'm not sure about Pioneer drives but all other ones I've come across don't require a driver.

Also, I doubt it's a virus causing it, sounds more like the lens is fucked to me... Can you hijack a friends PC and try it in that? I also understand that Pioneer drives can be a bit fussy with their media, have you tried other brands of DVD? Does it recognise a "pressed" DVD or one burnt in a different burner?

... Tis a process of elimination you see, look up some Sherlock Holmes quotes!!

are you using nero i know this might sound stupid but if you have burned a cd recently and changed the nero setting to cd and not turned it back to dvd

Ya, it's still messed up. maybe its the lense, but it reads burned dvds and regular ones, just not blank ones. weird. frustrating. I copied one dvd and the very one after that, that is when this problem started. yay!!!!!!!!!!!!

ran into that on a client's computer today actually, with nero express its can be easy to miss the cd/dvd tab in the top right of the screen, crappy version of nero anyway...

and sherlock holmes quotes, ive always been fond of "When you eliminate all logical answers, the illogical, however improbable, is invariably true."

i have both a ao9 pioneer, and asony 710 a i can confirm the pioneer is a bit picky ,as the 710 will burn anything, the only reason i keep the pioneer is that it will burn at a slower speed than the sony, the sonys slowest speed is 4 times, the pioneer will burn at 2 times
