img sizing and cleaning up

the girl is hosting a bad brains documentary premier and needs flyers blown up to poster size....i found some and a few came out OK/good enough...but there are a few that i need help with ....what filters can i use for this?...im using photoshop


anything pertaining to this can be used for the rest....i used posterize with the other 2 but this wont clean up enough

upscaling to 300 dpi and posterizing helps but i need to make it b&w not greyscale and duotone does cock...the lettering is flecked with grey spots

That's about as good as you'll get, upscaling from 72 DPI small screen images to 300 DPI print is just nigh on impossible. The information just isn't there. In the other thread someone mentioned rasterbating which you could look up, they'll look better from a distance and you can take it up to big sizes.

yeah ive been looking into that...i remembered PGs thread from a couple weeks ago....but i cant find anything in PS 7.0 for rasterizing


i also dont get the 72/300 dpi img size shit....

does a 72 dpi img resized to 300 dpi have to be sized to the actual printing size?....ie...the 72 dpi flyer is roughly 4-6 inches wide...will it have to be upscaled and enlarged to 300 dpi AND 24 inhes wide?

for an image like that i think adobe draws live trace filter may be your best bet as it converts it to vector and can be blown up with no loss of quality

i gave live trace a shot and also rasterizing in illustrator...and no matter what settings i fucked with...it always altered the original to an unusable img missing details (like all the faces in the crowd...etc)but it did sharpen up all the lettering
