Between the two , if you havent picked up either , pick up this release. The Picture is crisper not as pixely, Sounds Excellent. Only Complaint is the greenish tint. Good Job on the release.

looks good no me, cleaner pic and the sound is in sync.
The sample has a bit of a yellow/green tint to it, but just because that scene in the movie does, I noticed that on the other releases with this particular scene.

too bad about the green tint to it....would've been pretty nice

Posted by lizardman on 08-10-2003 03:23 AM:

there is supposed to be a green tint

whenever there is a green tint.. it is because they are in the matrix, out of the matrix there is no green tint.. suprised you didn't notice that before

Posted by Wanderer22 on 08-10-2003 03:42 AM:

The green tint is intentional.. it was filmed that way. Watch the extras on the first film's DVD, all scenes inside the Matrix are biased to green, while all real-world scenes are biased to blue. It's supposed to be that way.

Posted by Jc100 on 08-10-2003 03:50 AM:

The movie has the tint LOL. its the movie itself.. Ive seent he sample and downloaded release

Posted by Khameleon808 on 08-10-2003 04:00 AM:

I noticed the Green tint Too but undoubtedly the best SVCD release so far . Just watched the pronstars REPACK , nice picture , side by side you can see the tint difference

Posted by neoparadox on 08-10-2003 04:47 AM:

There is supposed to be a green tint.

From thematrix.com:

"One of the things we tried to do with the Neb, when we were shooting "in the real world", was use long lenses to separate the humans from the background; as opposed to when we shot the Matrix, we used short lenses to place the humans in specific deep spaces. We also tinted all of the lights blue in the "real world" and green in the Matrix."
--The Wachowski Brothers

"It was a whole motif inspired by the phosphorous green of old PCs."

Verrry nice release for a 2 month head-start on the retail.

Video: 9.5 (Very smooth during action. As good as svcd gets)
Audio: 9 (Pretty damn good, I'd really like to listen to this movie via 5.1 in October )
Movie: 9 (The crytic story really makes up for the appallingly bad diaglogue)

Please excuse me while I sit down and watch the two movies (thus far) in a row.

9/9/8 #3 will be better

Beautiful release. NO complaints. NO problems (did not burn so no comment on problems for burn) Pic very clear Audio very clear.

Video: 9.5
Audio: 9.5
Movie: 9.0

Note: Even though there is a "The One" in the Matrix there is not in real life or in movies. no 10 scores ever. 9.5 is as good as it gets from me.

Yes but it only does so by duplicating/deleting frames and slowing down the audio. So i's pretty much worthless, as you're bound to get a pitch change in the audio, and 'hitches' in the video at times.

Posted by RUiNU on 08-10-2003 10:00 PM:

Nice rip , 9/9/8 didnt like this movie that much

Posted by brintly on 08-11-2003 12:17 AM:

I'm an freak when it comes to encoding, there are slightly pixelated parts of the movie. It's not the entire frame, only approx 25% of those frames. One section to look at for example is where Neo is down in the engineering room in Zion. There is a red glow from onto the characters, it's sections similar to that throughout the movie where you get that... damn i'm picky... 8 on the vid, pretty good job overall though...

WTF! The green tint in question is on the sample which is the scene on the lorries, which is in 'the real world' so there shouldnt be a green tint

Well I have a DVD player that will play PAL material, my TV is the problem. I don't feel like going and buying a brand new TV when I never play PAL material anyway. I'm patient enough to wait for an NTSC release, so no biggie. If It comes down to it I'll just wait for the DVD to come out and do my own rip, hell my rips are better than these group releases 90% of the time anyway

My TV is hella old (so old the tube is now going black) and there's no problem playing PAL. Is your DVD player set to multi instead of NTSC?

What can i say this release is nice "clean" good video and audio and quality, too bad this was PAL if it was NTSC the audio would of been much better but it's all good, another SVCD DVDRip to add to my collection

:: the audio would've been better if it was NTSC? errr how exactly? what the hell does the video resolution/fps have to do with audio!?!? -pHo

Posted by Wanderer22 on 08-12-2003 08:46 AM:

To answer your question, Pho, at least the way I see it... PAL audio is too fast. The change from 24fps to 25 is done by doing a very slight speed-up on the footage. For the most part, it's unnoticable, as the difference is only one frame per second. But after watching the CTP release so many times, and listening to the soundtrack CD, this rip is definitely a touch faster than I'm "used to" it being. The audio is the only place it's noticable, as the eye can't differentiate a single frame per second. That's one reason why I prefer NTSC (also since I live in the U.S.. hehe).

But that's the only "flaw" I can find.. From everything I know about audio/video, that's the ONLY difference between NTSC audio and PAL audio. And yeah, it's a little quiet, but it's nothing that a.. uh.. whachicallit.. "volume control".. can't fix.

Didn't stop me from burning it for the tele, though. A quick re-encode to NTSC 30fps, works great. Should hold me over just fine until October.

I agree about PAL audio being annoying because it's all too fast, too high-pitched. But what does re-encoding to 30fps give you? If you're re-encoding anyway, why not slow it back down to 24fps, rather than waste space and bitrate at 30fps?

Posted by pHo on 08-12-2003 05:50 PM:

DivSky : svcd doesn't support ntscfilm (23.967fps)

personally, i'd take a 4% audio shift (which lets face it, when done from a proper PAL source is 99.9% unnoticable) over pulldown ANY DAY of the week. pull down is the evil of the movie world, you wont notice it till you know its there, and when you've seen it you'll never miss it again. judder-judder-judder

Posted by Wanderer22 on 08-12-2003 06:47 PM:

The encode to NTSC was just so I could watch it on the TV. I'm not really technically inclined enough to do a complete re-encode from 25fps to 24 to set it back to it's proper speed.. I just loaded the PAL file into TMPGEnc and told it to spit out an NTSC file. It's still playing back at PAL speed, just on an NTSC television. I think it's skipping frames here and there, but it's barely noticable unless you're looking for it, and even then you can only see it during the long slow-mo shots. But it still looks and sounds fantastic, more than enough to keep me occupied until the retail R1 DVD.

Good start for this group

Hi !!

Even though I'm not a pal fan they sure rip good.

This is one among the few svcd's that i can zoom into the picture
on my dvd without getting pixilated.

I wish my tv could play pal but when i buy my next tv I will make sure it can.

For the volume, I do have a volume control with some filters to add so thats not a biggie at all.

Picture - Just beautiful. Pretty much flawless. Couldn't ask for more. This will hold anyone over until the DVD is released.

Sound - The sound is great but it's low. However, on my tv, the problem goes away completely.

Movie - Awesome movie. The action sequences, special effects and camera work are unmatched. The acting isn't perfect and there are some flaws. The plot is very deep, complex and great if you can understand it and accept it (unlike a lot of bitchy people).

Fucking awesome release. Thanks to Chakra.

My DVD player is acting up

I can watch many SVCD's in my dvd player but for some reason when i put in this release the vertical picture gets all fucked up. i tried it in my computer using my cdrw drive with power dvd 5.0 and the picture skips but the sound is normal
Any suggestions that can help me would be appreciated

Posted by dopeuser8 on 08-20-2003 07:29 AM:

sound plays too fast now?

I'm going nuts reading these forums, maybe I dont get it, so Ill ask...
Isn't the digital-to-analog audio conversion of the mp2 file in the svcd/vcd done 'independently' from the video? The video is encoded at xxxx kbps & xx fps and the audio at xxx kbps with the sampling freq of xxxxx hz (hz = cycles per second). So its all done in 'whatever' bits of information PER SECOND.
A 10 minute (600 second) clip running at 29.97 fps, reencoded to 25 fps doesnt play in 8.34 minutes (500.5 seconds), it will still play in 10 minutes. So the multiplexed audio track will still play in 10 minutes also. So nothing should sound speeded up or slowed down, it should sould excactly the same, not to mention the original mp2 track should be multiplexed with the reencoded video anyways, since it would only lower sound quality to reencode it again.
I'm open to the fact that I could be wrong, I dont think I am, but please, I dont buy the whole 'converting ntsc to pal (or the other way around) will make a slight change in the audio speed playback', so please give me a little more technical proof, because I am curious if this is an actual fact. And please lets not turn this into a flame war, I'm asking an honest question here.

Posted by 7thEye on 08-20-2003 11:07 PM:

Whats does TV type have to do with playing PAL SVCDS?

My TV doesn't play PAL but when I put these into my DVD player it plays them fine. In fact, the player doesn't even know if its PAL/NTSC...all SVCDs/VCDs are the same.

Posted by EmPreSS on 08-24-2003 07:59 AM:

I bought a cheap $80 Daewoo player because it plays ntsc and pal and plays cdr/vcd/svcd/cdrw/dvdr etc...

Anyway, I've had this rls for awhile and just wanted to say it's perfect. No flaws in the video or audio at all. NO pixelated spots at all. It looks exactly like "real" dvd's I watch all the time. Only way this can look any better is to see it in the theater again...

This release is probably the best movie release I've ever seen yet, thanks to Chakra. Movie is great, but I still like the first one better due to personal preference.

Video
This movie is just perfect. I am lucky to have a 61" Sony big screen TV and it looks fucking awesome. Before I downloaded it, someone told me that some of the dark parts of the movie seemed really dark on his TV screen, but after I watched it on mines, it seemed like any normal DVD that I usually watch on my T.V.

Sound
The sound to me is perfect, especially with surround sound.

Overall, this movie release by Chakra is worth downloading, even if you have to download it on a 56k (yea sound crazy)

been too lazy to register in the past but had to today cause this rip is awesome. i am an audiophile though and i definitely notice the video and audio increased speed/pitch within the movie. all the music sounds about a half pitch higher so the voices are a bit on the higher/brighter side as well. it sounds a bit funny to me. but this is a great rip that's gonna be watched on the big screen many times here.
