Mirc Help

I try join vcdquality on Mirc and it says my ip banned, why? I've never tryed to join it b4 or pissed ne one off to get my ip banned.

Ok so i installed ident, dunno really whut it does but i also port forwarded 113. Now can i get some more clues? im not gonna give up on it...

Another thing while i remember, is mirc the right program to use? if theres somethin better, tell me and ill go get it.

I set mIRC up by this guys guide too, think iv got it all right...

Whats EFNet? i searched it on google and it came up with irc channels. On there i found in the list of servers "irc.easynews.com", but dunno were to go from there? Do i have to subscribe to easynews.com?

1. Ensure "ident" is enabled in your client.
2. Unblock port 113 (for ident)
3. Type: /server <round robin name>

The "round robins" for efnet are:

irc.efnet.us - USA
irc.efnet.ca - Canada
irc.eu.efnet.info - EU

4. Type: /join #vcdquality <password>

The password is available in the #vcdquality section of this forum

ok what i mess up or not understand now? fill me in, i mean give me a break....i've been only trying to do it for 3 days now. By saying that i got it, i ment that i got into a channel and server with people, just nobody talked or ne thing.

By saying that you want to /msg a bot it implies that you want to illegally download files from the channel. As vcdquality is only a release site this is impossible.

I think you want www.ircspy.com mate or one of those other sites that make me itch when I think about them.... But hey good luck

Your best bet is to say something disgusting in the channel and somebody is bound to say something The channel is really just for general chat and movie discussions though, we don't allow anything illegal in there (the whole point of VCDQ is we help you make an informed decision on what releases are available, how you obtain the releases is up to you )

No... Or, we don't know... Errr, NO! If you're downloading via XDCC bots they're nortoriously unreliable and often slow. Now, stop asking about downloading stuff - we can help you with technical issues once you've got a release but how you obtain the release is your problem (read the rules)

Nope, enabling ident and unblocking port 113 on your firewall should do the trick.

Like so:

/whois MYNICKNAME

It'll return something like:

see that ~ at the start of your ip adress? That means your identd is NOT working and it is probably because you have port 113 blocked and possibly because you are wearing a dress.

But if it is missing then you are free to join ( /join #vcdquality PASSWORD ) and participate in our politically correct jokes, discussions about the daily "Garfield" comic strip and nightly pray sessions

Hello, I have a problem. I read the whole thread, but I still can't get to join the channel.

I followed all the instructions here and on portforward.com and I also forwarded the port on the XP SP2's firewall. I still get the '~' before my name.

So my Ident isn't enabled. Can someone help me please?

Turn off XP firewall and get something proper.

Like Kerio or Sygate.

Use GRC.com to check if port 113 is open on your firewall, if it is... Check your options in mIRC.

I checked my Identd on the options in mIRC. It's enabled.
I used portforward.com to enable port 113 on my router, by putting a static IP instead of a dynamic one one my PC.


I tried disabling my firewall.
I joined the EU server of Efnet and the first one stated in the thread.
I tried the whois cmd on both and still get a '~' and when I try to join the channel I write : /join #vcdquality pwd (the pwd which is written on the #vcdquality forum. I keep getting the message that my address is banned.


Neversoft, I don't know know what I'm supposed to be looking for on the site you mentioned, since there are over 20 programs on that site.

I have another question before going on. On the ShieldsUp website, they say I have anotyher IP address than I get when performing the command : ipconfig /all in the MS-Dos command prompt.

How come?

^ I'm guessing you have a router in your setup... Your router has it's own external IP address that it's connected to the Internet on, thats the address you see in ShieldsUp and it's the same address any other external "thing" you connect to sees. Your router then assigns it's own IP's to everything connected to your side of the router, which is what your "ipconfig /all" IP is.

The easiest way to think of it is, you have your own private network (a LAN) with your own IP addresses that the Internet (a WAN) isn't aware of, and your router is the thing that translates (I'd say "bridges" but a network bridge is another thing entirely) your network with the outside world.

Your internal IP address means nothing on the Internet, if you ever need to give your "proper" IP to anybody, it's the ShieldsUp one (which will be same one you get if you go to the status screen in your router configuration, normally called the "WAN IP")

Ok, so now I have two problems.

I can't get seem make the ident thing work properly and port 113 is being reported as stealthed on the ShieldsUp website.
So, because of this, I can't get to the vcdquality channel.


The second problem seems to be very special because the IP I see on the ShieldsUp website is different than the one I see on the status screen of my router.

On ShieldsUp : 213.***.**.**
On Status screen in the WAN table in the IP row: 84.***.**.***

It seems I'm making something wrong here or there's something wrong with my connection.

ok, you don't mention your router maker/model so I can't be too specific in my guide but here goes...

In your router config:

1. Turn off router-assigned IP's and assign fixed IPs to the clients on your LAN.
2. In your routers Firewall configuration, forward port 113 and any other ports you use (such as BitTorrent ones) to the appropriate client IP.
3. On the client PC, go into START>Control Panel>Network and Internet Connections>Network Connections... Right-click your "main" connection (its name and the number of connections in there is entirely dependant on your setup so you'll have to work that bit out), select "Properties"
4. Go to the Advanced tab, click settings. Add a firewall exception for port 113: Description (whatever you want, I'd suggest "ident"), Name or IP (leave blank), External port (113 TCP), Internal port (113, TCP)

Reboot your router and test again.

With regards to the ShieldsUp IP being reported, that may be a result of your ISP. The WAN IP in your router config is the correct one.

Yes you can have your coffee, but then I have some problems as well, so you might not be able to drink it.

My router's make is Topcom and its model is WBR254.
I followed the instructions on putting a static IP on PortForward as well. I seem to have another problem now. I can't access my router's options anymore on one of my two PCs., the one I'm using most of the time.

The other PC doesn't have any problem getting to it.

Another problem I have is that I can't leave the space with the IP blank, Windows won't let me do it. It gives me some kind of message telling me I have to put an IP in there.

I'm really sorry, I know I'm a newbie.

There's two ways you can assign fixed IPs... Either use the router to assign a specific IP to a specific MAC address, or in your TCP/IP Properties in Windows - you specify the desired IP in there instead (the box you say is blank I suspect). If you go for the former, check the box to obtain an IP automatically in your TCP/IP properties.

To get to your TCP/IP properties go START>My Network Places>View Network Connections>Right-click/Properties>Internet Protocol>Properties (although I reckon you've found it already)

You don't have 3 IP addresses for one PC You have your WAN address (your internet connection) and your LAN addresses (everything "behind" your router) each PC gets its own LAN address... What you need to do is either tell Windows to use a specific LAN address (using whatever LAN IP range your router is setup for) or for neatness... Leave the PC to obtain it automatically and "fix" the IP address for that PC's MAC address - most routers have this facility.

If you don't know your network cards MAC address (each network card has a unique address, like a serial number) you can get it using "ipconfig /all" from a command prompt.

If all else fails... Set your PC's to obtain IPs automatically. Reset the router to factory defaults and try setting up the IP/MAC thing again
