You guys are gonna be like .. "OMG THIS IS FAKE, ITS BULLSHIT" .. "BLAH BLAH BLAH"..

Well, it's not fake. Infact, it's a very nice release. Despite the white (almost clear) watermarks at the top and bottom of the video, it's near perfect. Slightly blurry, good coloring, 2:35:1 widescreen picture. I don't know if there are any scrolling messages or timers, but i'm 99% sure that there isn't anything else except the text on the bottom and top of the video that you can barely notice. The sound is very fuckin nice..and as for the movie, it looks FUNNY AS FUCK. I have been waiting so long to see this, and well, i love the academy season. Hopefully we can expect more releases like this. Nice job TheFly

8/8/8

::edit:: Just finished watching this movie (fell asleep last night ), anyways, it was pretty fucking original if you ask me. Funny..dramatic...the whole works. Very different type of movie, but definately on my '04 top 25 list. Check this flick out as soon as you can!

I'd rather d/l 2 CD's than a full dvd. Especially when it's a
screener with water marks.. svcd does the job well enough
with a good source.

Great job for a DVD pre-release screener.
Had to turn up the brightness and turn down the color on the tv, but that was only a minor pain.
Funny movie and Bill Murray turns in another great performance.
Gotta love that Bowie!

Posted by bransholme on 12-24-2004 11:36 AM:

From looking at cd 2, the quality for a dvd source is a bit off, looks better on TV tho, I suspect tho that the quality is due to the source dvd and not the encode itself. Still excellent early rls, hits the UK next feb I think. will be watching this tonite rather than the shite on TV. 7/9/?

There are watermarks that come up fairly often on the top and bottom of the film; although, they're pretty much transparent, they do sometimes take your eye away from the action. Other than that, great release.

Posted by HcC on 12-24-2004 09:52 PM:

Svcd isn't dead idiots. You must like xvid because it fits on your xdcc bots. Svcd is still compatible with most standalone dvd players so go die.

Video is good, considering the source is obviously a bit dodgy for a DVD.

Audio is clean, but unspectacular, as you would expect from a movie like this.

As for the movie, I've gotta go with the critics. Awful.

Great release. I have been waiting to see this movie, and I don't live in N.Y. or L.A., so I got it before the release date in my city.

This may have come from a DVD Screener, but I really doubt that it was ripped off the DVD.

1) it's interlaced
2) it has black area on the sides

No studio is going to master a DVD like this, especially not for a film that is obviously an oscar contender.

My guess would be that this was recorded onto something like SVHS and then recapped, but that is just a guess. I could be totally wrong as well.

I don't think it's interlaced, it's encoded at a progressive framerate(23.976). The black area on the sides is an encoding method of reducing what's actually encoded, and taking into account of overscan when viewed on a tv. On a tv you shouldn't see the black area. I think the reason it don't look so good as a dvdrip is the cappers probably used a resizer that softened it a lot.

as a dvdscr i'll rate it as:

7\9\? - haven't watched it yet

probably the bitrate issue, as in many standalones this release won't play, and if it does it will most likely skip horribly. ... powerdvd should play it with the ugly black bars on the side though ... make sure you got all the right codecs and such and you should be good to go!

I watched the movie w/o any playback problems using WinDVD. I would suggest trying to use a different app besides WMP, but that's just my opinion. The only codecs that I have installed on my machine are xvid, and divx. You can find both free online. Hopefully this will help you.

Thanks for the release but after watching the movie, I have come to the conclusion that this is indeed the biggest piece of shit I have ever seen. I cannot believe that movie studios would fund a turd like this. Of course it wouldn't surprise me if it gets nominated for some stupid awards. Trust me, I felt like I wasted 2 hours of my life after watching this feces pile. It doesn't make sense, it doesn't make a point and it just flat out sucks ass, IMHO!!

All you need to play mpeg2 (SVCD) is an mpeg2 decoder- if you have a dvd-rom drive or dvd player software you should be okay. If not, most of the alternative media players like VLC or Media Player Classic or BSplayer come with a decoder built-in.

Xvid and DivX are mpeg-4 codecs- they don't have anything to do with mpeg-1 (vcd) or mpeg-2 (dvd, svcd)

I thought the audio and video were great. I adjusted down the bitrate with DVDPatcher, burned it to CDR's and watched it on my standalone with no problems. Thanks TheFly for another great job. However, IMO the movie itself left a little to be desired ( I thought it was crap ) but to each their own. Anyway the release was nice work.

Wow.... Just wow...

I ignored the nuke and downloaded and boy was I glad.

What a great movie. I'm so glad to see that Bill Murray is getting some great roles. It sounds bad but this is probably the best movie i've seen since Lost In Translation (Another Murray film).

Video - 9 - Seemed like the colors were a TOUCH off but I'm being REALLY nit picky on this. Great release. I did notice that there were about 3 times that it skipped. Again, might have been a me issue. No blurring, no pixelation, no blockiness, all in all just great quality. There is a watermark present but if you get into the movie it's really invisible.

Audio - 10 - As can be expected the audio was great. No complaints at all. Fine job on the audio guys

Movie - 10 - The movie started off a bit slow and was only about an 8 for 99% of the movie but the ending really clinched those final 2 points to make this an all out 10. Great acting by everyone and a truely great story.

Overall - 9/10/10

Posted by vcd fogie on 01-13-2005 02:14 AM:

great rls despite the microblocking, anal perfectionists might differ. the xvid has less artifacting, especially with flat colors like the walls in the hallway in the first scene (n00b translation: the xvid is less blocky)

video - 7 - great colors, but microblock city

audio - 10 - perfect

movie - ?
