It's an award screener! Those NEVER have b/w scenes in them. You've been around since 03 (at leasts).... you should know this.

Yeah its kinda dark and lacking of color on WMP and VLC i can use video settings on WMP to adjust and make it look better .......but if you have a standalone burn it and watch on bigscreen it looks far better that way

Here's a real rating:

v6 (it's DARK!)
a9
m8 (great!)

It shouldn't matter if we can fix the darkness factor ourselves.... this rls is very dark! The video should not be rated higher than a 6 because of that OR for even the fact that this rls is out before it hits theaters. If you rate the video based on a dvdcr it sucks! That's just the way it is.

First thanks to PUKKA. An Oscar contender many say and we have this quality rlse out so quickly. It is dark though. Seldom mention this because can easily correct with what I play it on. This rlse as well but not the best result I've had. Also there is some haziness, blurriness, lack of vibrant color and a few other things. All very minor. Sound is great. Long movie am almost finished. First class. Kudos again to PUKKA

pukka does it again!
mad props, and thanks of course for this special treat

it's not as great as some dvd scr's i've seen, it actually bears more resemblance to that of a VHS screener in terms of picture quality, well okay it's not that bad... but like everyone else said, it could be a little lighter and colorful, and sharper too.

either way it's completely watchable and of course thanks to pukka again for providing this to us so early!

as dvdscr:

v-7 washed, dark, not sharp
a-10 ac3 audio, perfect quality
m- watching now, i have very high hopes based upon other people's posts!

You can watch the trailer and see it was not intended to be dark. I've also seen the commercial on tv and it's not dark either.

adjusting settings on my pc screen all the way on bright wouldn't help all that much but on the front projection system it was fine after tweaking but only watchable at night or with shade drawn on it.

If you want to fix it adjust the colour balance not contrast/brightness your get better results especially if you use QT trailer as a reference

I agree completely. NO way does this deserve a 9 video rating.... or anything above a 6!

People need to rate the realease AS IS and not after they fix it. Many releases are out of sync and get nuked even though the downloader/user can fix that himself. Conclusion: everyone needs to rate this video as it is without tweaking it. It sucks as is and should be rated as such.

No way is this a dvdscreener. unless it was recorded through Analog. there are just so many things wrong here - the picture has extremely bad contrast levels:

http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/5528/levelspd7.png

i mean, that's just ridiculous!
talk about low dynamic range! that's just about half of normal!!!

this makes the film extremely dark, and the colors dull.

and if that's not enough, it's too blurry.

oh, and the audio is only 2ch. understandable due to the length, but i don't get the point of 2ch ac3 - either go original 5.1 audio, or mp3.

Video needed serious adjusting once played on standalone dvd and tv. Audio dual stereo. No black and white scenes, no watermarks.

So, I'm rating it AS IS:

V=5
A=8
M=10

I was glued to my seat!
Burn it and adjust tv setings and you're fine.

Posted by impaler on 10-27-2007 05:22 AM:

after re-encoding with vdub, playing with levels and saturation - (had to use my new Q6600 for SoMETHING... 1.5hours while surfing and watching mpg4... sweet)

still looks like crap.

after watching the crisp, vivid colors of the trailer from imdb - this looks PATHETIC.

the trailer show clearly: this movie is NOT DARK, NOR DOSE IT USE A BLAND GRAYISH PALETTE.

where are the days of the LOTR dvdscreeners??? for just a few seconds of "property of" and "for your consideration" we had REAL QUALITY. 5.1ac3, crystal clear picture, almost indistinguishable from retail!

so, i'm re-evaluating the score:
v - 4 (like a TS, without the bad AR and flickering. most TCs are superior [see Hostage TC for reference)

at least the audio is fine. with the slew of bad R5s we had this year, that's a blessing.

AWFUL RELEASE - DO NOT DOWNLOAD EXPECTING EVEN VHS QUALITY

Posted by LOLobo on 10-28-2007 03:19 AM:

It may very well look less than VHS quality on a newer plasma or LCD... but not unwatchable on any older TVs.

Strong pixelation during dark scenes.... audio perfect, video at least a 7.5 during lighted scenes, during dark scenes it does get pretty bad, but I only noticed one at the beginning that even looked bad.

Haven't finished watching the film, looks interesting but rather go out and have some Chinese.

when i converted to DVD using WinAVI, it did make the movie darker than the original. i had to use ver 7.6 for it to come out normal.

the avi looked fine when viewed on STD def 4:3 using a phillips p643 and on my pc. i understand it's a little darker than intended, but it's not like its unwatchable. if you haven't already grabbed this one, pay your isp bill and get on the ball cause not only is the copy awesome, it's a great movie too.

i have never seen so many rate a movie incorrectly. looks as if all the newbies and even some regulars just lost it rating the video.

am i glad to see the release yes.
but don't let being glad to see a release blind you to what you are supposed to report here.

does being glad make the video look even OK the way it is ,hell no.

never seen so damned many lairs in one place saying it's not dark. it is way to dark. you have to be a fool to say it's not.

it's way to dark to try and watch on any damned thing .

if you know anything about how to correct the brightness and contrast you can repair this video and make a good movie out of it.

I'm sure most posters here have no idea how. because they think it's good already.

tell the truth i think no one will come here to see how a movie rates after the lies told here about this one.

this site needs some trusted people with a brain and not blind posters to give a true rating and kick the newbies off .

a lot of fools rated this one way to high . I can no longer pay attention to ratings here with crap like this being posted you have to see for yourself
