This is a Sweet TS, better then majority of Screeners.

Video colors are great, a/r is fine picture is sweet. This sounds excellent too. Cant get much better then this. Watched the CAM this morning and it was pretty good movie till the endish then got kinda gay. Other then that they stuck to the comic pretty good first 1/2 of the movie. Great Job VideoCD!

def not the worst TS and not the best, either. but it is pretty damn good.

8.5/10/x

8.5 for video b/c the colors are pretty dull but other than that it's about as good as a TS can get. slight motion blur but most TS's are usually much worse in that department so mad props to videocd.

10 for audio because, well, TS audio just doesn't get any better. hands down.

This came along before the kids got to watch the cam.

If you have a choice grab this one and watch more than
the first couple of minutes on the first CD before you rate
it.

Good job again VideoCD.

very nice release

Posted by Jc100 on 06-13-2004 06:41 AM:

After watching this, i give it high marks. The first 30 secs has a flicker, it goes away... After that the quality is pretty good.. better than some so called TC's ( cough matine)... Slight motion blur, not horrible.. a bit annoying, but me.. Yet, very very very watchable and clear audio. What more could we ask.. O if you watch there are 2 scenes at the bottom left where someone briefly walks in way of camera, very small and almost un-noticeable... pretty cute movie as well... I want a garfield 2!!! the cgi to make him kicked ass.. lol.. Enjoy

FLAWLESS. 10/10/7. Movie was NOT as bad as expected, very enjoyable. Literally the best ts I've ever seen. Great color, great sound, even a credit at the end.

These cats are really in the zone.

Does anybody else remember when VideoCD was just another group, occasionally nailing a release, but oftentimes messing one up? Now they're so far ahead of the pack that they probably can't even SEE second place. Tremendous work.

If TuN can get their act together, they'll be just as good. That last release they put out of "The Day After Tomorrow" was gorgeous. TuN has potential, but right now, as far as consistently clear releases that have few, or no glitches, VideoCD are the current reigning champs. I still remember the"good ol days" when everyone was rocking on their thumbs waiting for the next Centropy release. Those guys were the champs when I first came on the scene (which lets you know I haven't been here all that long). I wish they would come back. They make a few special appearance releases now and then (eg., "Passion of the Christ", "Hellboy"), but they seem to be pretty much out of the scene.

Very nice TS, I watched the cam of this but I grabbed cd1 and flicked through (For my Niece you understand)

Videocd are indeed on fire at the moment, I remember when they were putting out TC's with counters which everyone constantly slagged them off for not calling them screeners. A few good releases and everyone loves you. You can hear CTP fanboys on here still ranting about there TS's. As for TUN the Day After TC was quite nice far too decent to be a TS of such a dark high action movie but other than that there releases have been distinctly average. They remind a bit of the Ateam, I suspect a silver group at least at the mo.

And another VERRRRRRRRRRRRRY SWEET release from VideoCD. This group has got the TS market sewn up!

As for this particular release the only bad comment i can make about it is the flickering on the opening credits, lasts for about a minute and a half, but once the movie starts for real its PERFECT!!
Audio is perfect as usual, havent had time to watch the whole movie yet, will edit when i have.

Vid. 9
Aud. 10

No TS comeback for CTP

I know a lot will disagree.

I really hope CTP does not make a full comeback in the TS scene.

I had just come into the scene when CTP was riding their roller coaster back up this last time. I found myself *only* looking for CTP releases and *only* waiting for CTP releases. I wouldn't care for other groups, at all. If a release was posted on Sunday, I'd wait until Wednesday because, "more than likely the CTP version would be out by them."

Now that CTP has been doing their other thing (which doesn't seem like much of it either), I have been getting into other groups, seeing multiple releases, and rooting for different groups. CTP can stay gone for all I care, I think it brings about more competition and more new groups because they won't get discouraged with CTP dominating the scene.

I'd prefer not all my good eggs be in one single basket, and when CTP is thriving, that is what seems to happen.

As far as this rls...
This is one for the youngins, so far (watched 10min), looks like a good family movie. Will watch with my boy today.

Well, I have to admit, that's a very interesting way to look at it. Also, I'm sure you're right about other groups being discouraged whenever CTP would come out with a release. Their attitude is "Why bother? It's not going to look as good as Centropy's anyways".
Your reasoning is good, except for 1 thing. What you said about Centropy would apply to ANY group that's dominating the scene at any given time. It's the laws of supply and demand. "FBc" released "Chronicles" one day after it was out. Nobody cared. WHY? Because we're all waiting for VideoCD to release it. VideoCD is today's Centropy. It doesn't matter which group it is. Whichever group puts out consistent, clean quality releases with a day or 2 after it's theater release is the group that's going to get the most praise. No 2 ways about it.
There are many people as of now that wait until VideoCD puts something out before they d/l it. They won't even mess with anything else unless it's a higher quality group (like Chakra) who happens to put their releases out LATER, after the main buzz for a movie has worn down some. VideoCD gets them out there within 1 to 4 days after it's theater release, and the quality is almost always GREAT. Sound like any OTHER groups from the past? (with the initials "CTP").

Nothing bad here, another typical fantastic and well done SVCD TS..I watched the Cam also, but this has a far better pic and sound.. and no lady stands up at the end right in front of the camera.. but come on.. Where is Chronicles of Riddick.. bah..

8/8/7.5 Movie is one time watch for me..Second time its less funny.

Posted by pezley on 06-14-2004 12:43 AM:

Very nice... one of the better TS's as of late.. Videocd do fuck up alot .. but they sure as know what they are doing when it comes to cammin'.

Great sound... nice and colourful pic... slightly faded and washed.. but nothing that isnt expected of a ts..

i watched the whoel thing and didnt notice anyone standing up as has been said.

for everyone askign for a chronicles of riddick.... its gonna blow ( not the film ) but its too dark to cam .. will end up a black and grey mess.

Garfield = 8/9/6 ( was enjoyable enough , and bill murray rocks )

LOL!!!

Unfortunately, all of our eggs *are* in the VideoCD basket right now, just as they were with CTP a while back. All one can do is hope there's another wildebeast waiting in the wings to take the place of the fallen, when they fall or migrate.

As great as CTP was in their heyday (the first "supergroup"), the releases from VideoCD right now are actually better. CTP always had some maddening flaw-- microphones, anyone? Odd coloring. Or those angles.....

I'm glad CTP is still around. How sweet would a CTP vs. VideoCD competition be? Everybody gets phat, including Hollywood--->

1) Harry Potter 3 - $35.1M
2) Riddick - $24.6M
3) Shrek 2 - $24M
4) Stepford Wives - $22.2M
5) Garfield - $21.6M

It's all good.

this was just simply incredible, top work to VideoCD for this fantastic piece of work, this was just as good, if not even a little better (no floating mics because it wasnt filmed open matt) than some of ctp's offerings of the past.

I cant find fault with this movie, except maybe it was a french video source, and those damn french beat us in the footy but thats about it....

im unashamed to give this 10 / 10 / 7

I've not seen a better ts in my 5 years on the scene. well maybe we were soildiers by ctp, but this was just great. top marks videoCD, please dont do a disapearing act at the start of screener season like ctp always did!

qualiy however is great. if you think this movie is a 7+ you need to start watching some good films.

This is an awesome VideoCD release.

9/9/4

Just a question, i noticed on their Shrek 2 release as well that the intro's with the "Director" and "Co-Producer" all those things showing up on the screen, they are in french?

So VideoCD's source is from french theaters? I noticed they said the source was a PAL Svcd but im just unsure.

Heh, doesnt bother me, but it tricked me =)

-----
Edit: I tried to watch this movie today with 2 friends... i mean, movies made for mostly younger kids (even tho garfield was more of a 80s thing, right?) i can stand watching (sometimes enjoying but.... this just wasnt that funny.

It seemed like they wer trying to make garfield say funny things but they werent even funny. Like he would say a comment then 5 seconds later another comment supposed to be funny too.
Youll know what i mean if u see/seen it.

My friends agreed with me and we didnt even watch up to the second cd. Throwing relationships into it was.... kinda rediculous.

As for the release, damn this is one nice TS. Best one I have ever seen. Videocd is the CTP of last year. release after release... mai goodness.

Video: 10
Audio: 10
Movie: 7.5

As for the other groups:

TuN is coming and new, will they be able to encode right and make a swift coming. (Oh plz dont do tht Troy TC again)

Chakra: wow where do they get these telecines? AWESOME.

CTP: well... you make occasional excellent releases. Nice hellboy.

Wasted Time: Keep on the good work w/ those screeners

And Remember. W/E group gives good releases always is fan favorite. Once videocd stops... its time for some1 else 2 take over.

but the film it self sucked big time !!

Which as a huge fan of garfeild and having read most of the comic strips i can get along with the books and watched all the cartoons only to see them make him look and worse then the cat in the friging hat

Lighten up! I've read those shitty reviews too. What's up with those critics? You know they give high ratings to shitty ass movies and then something like this which is enjoyable, they give such a low rating.

very good video and audio quality - 8/8

movie itself is rather artificial and boring, although I must admit I did laugh once or twice, but overall it's no good. rating - 4

btw, something is wrong with the second videocd. no player would play it. had to re-encode it to mpeg2 using VCDGear. What's the matter with those release groups? They just don't learn how to create videocds properly. Ah, well...

I'd give it 8.5/9 on the video and sound, but a 4 for the movie? I enjoyed it, my partner enjoyed it, kids seem to love it. Would you say its relative to who watches? Not brilliant by any means but at least rates a 7.
BTW what standalone do you use? I have a Yamaha and it ran both vcd's fine.

Ok, everything has probably been said but hell I just saw this and wanted to put my 2 cents in.

Great video. Could put it on VHS and noone would know it wasnt from the rental store(minus the begininning).
Movie blew chuncks. I love Garfield and it being 70 minutes would be the only reasons I watched it. Big let dow in all catagories of the comic(John with a date?). My cat did resemble Garfield an aweful lot, though.

Video=9
Audio=9.3
Movie=2(only watched because it was so short)

I don't go to the theater and even if I do it is free. This is a good example of why people should be able to download the movie first or at least download a good 10-20 minutes of it. If I had paid to see this crap I would have been back at the ticket counter 20 seconds aftet the movie let out. They make tens and hundreds of millions of some bad movies and yet they still complain and then they make hundreds of millions off of good movies and still they say they are being hurt by those who download movies on the internet. I say stop making crap noone wants to see in the theater and more people will be in the theater watching your movies.

Last couple of opening weekends should be enough proof that the internet downloading has not hurt anything or anyone let alone the ticket sales!!!!!!!

hmm, personally i had no problem with mine, but have had that happen to me a few times on different releases, usually the second cd. (most of the time it just requires you to pul lthe mpeg off the cd with VCDGEAR and reburn with nero, or whatever you use)

But, like i said, mine played fine with PowerDVD when mounted thru daemon tools, and played great thru my Panasonic DVDplayer once i burnt them.

it may be more amusing for children than for adults, but still, I think even children won't be satisfied with this movie. maybe EXACTLY because they are children they'll notice the artificiality of this movie right away, even faster than adults.
Take for example that misplaced quote from Apocalypse Now. It's supposed to be funny, but it's not. It's artificial.
And besides, children don't watch Apocalypse Now. And most adults don't watch Garfield. So who's supposed to recognise the allusion?

This movie is no different from hundreds of other Hollywood movies - artificial humour, and therefore not funny.

I watched it on pc. When I said "player" I meant software players. Although, I do have a hardware mpeg2 decoder and it refused to play the videocd either. Same thing with WMP.

Awesome quality, dont know if its the best ever, but its the best in my couple years on the scene, that is understandable with only 35 mins a disk tho, shorter than half baked?? is that possible....??? and yes i know it is, but that allows a higher bitrate and shit = better rls.. with that said 2 things that will make these ts's almost dvd quality are showing up, and will be addressed in DVcams eventually are 1, the extremely slight motion blur, doesnt screw with u much but its there, and 2 the lightness, i notice this on all videocd, when you get to the brightest scenes the white is on ppls faces and blah not their fault in any way, but give it a year or 2 and im sure its gonna be on... but the dts is what video cd is all about how can u rate bad on that.. good good good stuff keep it up 10/10/6 (movie not that bad, just 70 mins? f**k i dont care if it was 120 mins, they had alot more to work with with this sketch, but it wasnt exactly bad, just not long enuff or i guess exact enuff to the comic

Luverly

VideoCDs french suplliers are making me very happy at the moment. Last TS I got which impressed me this much was Centropys Bruce Almighty. Sharp, good colours, clear sound.

9/9/4

Was ready to say that pHo was being a bit harsh on this film, wasn't expecting much but thought it would be OK to watch for a video night with my girlfriend. I watched the first 10 mins this morning though, and oh dear, I'm afraid it looks like he's right. Really forced corny humour, cat only vaugely looks like Garfield, doesn't act like him, doesn't sound like him and all the other characters are utterly way off. They should have done this like the last loony tunes film with characters in their cartoon form but shaded to add more depth and blend them in with the live action scenes. But even that wouldn't have saved the really cringe making humour.

I wont give a score till I've actually seen all of it, but the fact that people are scoring this higher than football factory is depressing based on what I've seen.

EDIT: Well movie was a pretty run of the mill family comedy, and I didn't really enjoy it, my girlfriend did though. It went through the checklist of finding love, someone being kidnapped by an evil animal hater, dancing to "I feel good", the old "I'm so tired I can't go on any more, oh look zoom out and I'm just outside my gate, didn't see that one coming..." etc etc. Not quite as bad as I'd first feared but that only bumps it upto a 4.

There seemed to be a problem in mine where the picture would freeze on the one frame for about 5 mins, been told it was due to the Audio so might try and correct it at some point to see what I missed

Didnt think it was the best Cartoon--->Movie but def not the worst.

Great Video and audio like all VideoCD releases. Crapy movie not really funny. GF loved it though but that doesn't say much.

Ok, watched this on the stanalone lastnight.

First off, what hit me was the copping. This rls is quite heavily cropped. aslo the titles at the begininng trail off screen, but however, these are no biggies and do not affect the film that much.

Audio is great, no problems whatsoever.

Video - not too bad at all. maybe a little dull but expected with a TS.

Mine seemed to have a VERY slight audio sync prob. maybe 0.5ish secs if you wanna be really picky. Overall great rls, this is the one to get for now.

7/9/5

Movie is OK (nothing more), just for a light hearted laugh really, girlfriend enjoyed...Bill Murray was great as Garfield....couldn't think o fanyone better!
