How to fix darkness/Color problems

You can fix the darkness and color problem very significantly if you have a 2Ghz or so cpu (at the least 1.5Ghz).

You need ffdshow. Try http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Filters...ow-20041012.exe
Doom9.org is respectable if your not much into video encoding and havnt heard of it.

Install it.

You'll need to set the mpeg4 video decoder properties to something like this:

Postprocessing: Ticked

Mplayer: Ticked
Luminance, Full Luma Range: ticked

then:
Levels:
Increase the gamma to around 2.0 or something, according to your taste and setup.

It should work, I dont *think* you need to enable any of the codec options but if you have trouble look there.

This will make a massive difference in my opinion. If you like this or suggest other settings, let me know.

::EDIT:: Yeah... WinDVD gives you picture adjust and an graphic equalizer. More than enough to clean-up most releases and no dicking about with codecs - Neversoft::

Kanga: Lol cool yeah never thought of windvd (nor powerdvd)

Heh color problems happen on a telecine aswell mate. Only the most expensive ones that can make them completely correct that is why mill dollar telecines are used for mastering the dvd

Judging by the first 5 .rars or so video quality looks really good, especially since it just came out. This is a great tc, with minimal pixelation, and very good colors. I was surprised to see English writing, thought it might be a foreign source (I guess it still could be...). I'm not sure of the sound, VLC Media Player makes it very distorted.

WinRar starts extraction with the very last file (the rar file) and then proceeds to the very first file and then in numerical sequence after that. So download the main rar file and the first 2 or 3 files from the beginning. Ex: download cd1.rar and files cd1.r00, cd1.r01 and cd1.r02. (If all the files end in rar, the very last file will be the main rar file.) Double click on the main rar file as usual to start the process and then check the box under misc for keep broken files. WinRar will then unrar as far as it can and then give you a file missing error. Just cancel at that point. It will then ask you, do you want to keep what was downloaded? Say yes. You will now have a partial download that you can open with a virtual drive program or that you can extract with isobuster. (This trick comes in real handy if you can't find any sample files to preview.) A tip - it's a little quicker to preview the release with cd2 files instead of cd1 files because you don't have sit thru any blank screens or opening credits to see what the quality is like.

Actually thats a very bad way of doing it, you first need to make sure if the file was imaged or not. If it was, u got no choice but to download the whole thing, but if they didnt image it and its an mpeg file, then just rename any of the RARS to an .mpeg and u can see the movie within that rar file. Avoid the above process. Not that its wrong but this is more easier.

Posted by pvt_klaas on 05-14-2005 12:48 PM:

watched it completely now:
a bit disappoi, nted in the plot...
but no quality problems at my standalone :-).
The video is average-good, still bit pixelar
audio is just perfect, a nice clear sound, even in the 'crowded' scenes.
A Job Well done by TUN, thx

8/9.5/7

Posted by D0BB0 on 05-14-2005 01:42 PM:

nothing wrong with it if saosin released this u would all be givving 9s, as for those in doudt about the whole ts tc thing ive said it once and ill say it again TUN TCs are real TCs they are noway a TS the fact that everything is on the screen alone is enough nothing is chopes from the sides there is no angle, no matter how good of a ts u do u will always have a slight angle and a slight bit chopped each side.

9/9/7.5

Very easy
Just download and use vlc media player
Drag and drop rar into player and it plays
Thats of course a temporary solution but it lets you see quality of other rars etc apart from sample

Posted by rascallion on 05-14-2005 06:44 PM:

Wasnt too taken with the sample on the pc but the movie is much better on the stand alone, colours are sharp and clean and the sound is crisp and clear.

The way suggested above will only work with files that extract to an mpeg which is very rare to see. So yes, it's a real easy method that you will almost never be able to use. It is also incorrect to say that you will first have to download the entire thing if it's an imaged file. You don't. You can do a partial extraction with winrar as I suggested.

Someone else mentioned that vlc player will play rar files directly. Being curious and always looking for an easier method, I tried it and it works. Using vlc player is probably the easiest way to preview a file unless you want to make your own samples and then you can use the method that I posted. In either case, you don't need to download the entire post first to preview it.

looks perfect on my tv (for above comment) = borders black & film dark bits dark grey so fine for me.

Have to be honest in saying the quality is amazing on this.

If & that's a big if (that i dont see anyone mentioning) is that the picture looks ever so slightlly compressed horizontally giving the effect of all the actors being slightlly slimmer but that would be really picky as this is an excellent release.

Adding my two cents

From watching the entire release

Video - lovely work from TUN, in my mind this is a true telecine. Great colors, couldnt ask for anymore. Slight AR issues as faces do seem thin, but this is very minor. Very little bluriness and the brightness is fine, turn the brightness on your tv up!!

Audio - lovely no problems at all. Does have about two sentances of subtitles at the end of CD2, these are in Russin but you get the jist of what is said from Orlando Blooms replies in english.

Movie - of all the recent historical epics of late this one is top of the tree imo. I knew i could trust Ridley Scott to deliver and he does masterfully. Excellent dialog, a gripping storyline that does stick to accurate events, although obviously there is the storytelling to make it encapsulated within a movie runtime.
Orlando Bloom was very good as 'the perfect knight' delivered his lines well and gave me a hero i wanted to win. Backed up by an impressive ensemble amke this one of my favourite films this year. ONE TO WATCH so thankyou TUN for delivering.

The film was okay, but Ridley should have Americanised it more, during the scene between orlando and the moslim leader Saladin near the end, Team America and the US marines should have turned up all guns blazing

ya know what this realy isn't a bad copy of the movie and stupid people like you are always complaining over little stuff. So my question is can you see the movie bright and clear? is it watchable? or can you do a better job?............... Yea that's what i thought so quit your bitchin and that goes for every one else that has something negative to say about any group that has done a fairly decent job on a movie

i give it a 9 for vidio

well the scenes that had CD changes rolled smoothly (disc x ends so you change to disc y and the scene continues right where you left off), so i dont think theres anything missing. if there is, then TUN did a nice job of editing.

this isnt too bad for a telecine, much better than the nbp copy which was too blue for my liking! it does look a bit dark to
me, from looking at the 20th century fox logo at the start, its almost black!

not too bad overall but ive seen much better telecines, and much worse!

v 8

a 8 (turn it up loud and you hear a slight hiss, nothing bad though)
