I'm an SG-1 fan too, and to be honest RDA's acting, while not bad, ain't all that great IMO, and he's almost certainly not the best actor of the cast. For me, it's the whole ensemble that does it -- the show's actors have enormous chemistry together. I mean, hell, just to use one example, Teryl Rothery (a.k.a. "Dr. Janet Fraiser") managed to pull herself into enough limelight that she has a rather sizable fan following, mostly due to people picking up on her on/off-screen chemistry with the main cast.

Throw that in with decent stories (i.e. better than most of the dreck out there), good attention to continuity, better-than-average attention to science, and it makes for good (if not great) television. And, hell, if you're bored, you can mentally play Spin The Bottle between the characters; the chemistry makes for enough subtext to argue in favor of just about any pairing, even as a devil's advocate. (Sam and Jack? Bo-ring! Sam and Teal'c? Thousands would agree. Jack and Daniel? Rather popular. Sam and Janet? But of course. Jack and recurring slimeball Harry Maybourne? You're not alone. General Hammond and Jacob, Sam's recurring father? Been done, although I shudder to imagine.)
