Thumbs up The Dark Knight Thread!

Word is going around that the next trailer will air before 10,000 B.C. The next trailer is supposed to have less of the Joker and pay more attention to Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart).

Harvey Dent, of course, will become the villain Two-Face.

Can't wait to see the trailer. I have mixed feelings about Aaron Eckhart playing Two-Face but Christopher Nolan knows what he is doing so it will be interesting to see how Eckhart will play Dent/ Two-Face.

What I am wondering is what Two-Face will look like. I'm sure Nolan probably will not go for the Batman Forever Two-Face look. I'm thinking he will go for a more realistic look.

Of course, Heath Ledger as the Joker seems to be spot on. From the trailers, it looks like he is going to be amazing.

New details on the Dark Knight trailer. Rumors are saying it is coming out on Sunday. Somebody supposedly has already seen the new trailer and has given details....

"It opens with a camera flying over Gotham. We see the same shot of Batman on the roof used in a previous trailer. Harvey Dent's voice over: 'It's an honor to finally meet you.'

They cut to Bruce and Harvey in a restaraunt (the same one from the previous trailer with the shots of rachel). We now see Eckhart talking, he continues his dialougue: 'Rachel's told me everything about you.'

Bruce smiles. 'I truly hope not.'

The Batpod races through a narrow alley and cop cars brake and crash into each other since they can't fit through.

Citizens gaze up at the Joker talking on multiple TV moniters outside an electronic store. Joker (fuzzy and shadowy on the screen) 'Starting tonight people will die. I'm a man of my word.' Echoing laughter.

Gordon, Dent, and Batman on a rooftop.
Gordon: 'I want to be clear on this. In our zeal to bring him to justice, I'll let you bend the rules but we cannot break them. Otherwise, how are we different from him?'
Dent: 'Of Course.'
Batman: 'Agreed.'

The Dark Knight theme and logo cued."

The trailer in all its 1080 goodness: http://media.whysoserious.com/TDK_TRL2_best.mov

Looks superb! Heath is just what I thought he would be. And any movie with Maggie gets a hard-on/thumbsup from me!

Does Luscious Fox make Batman a new Batmobile? I heard the Batmobile gets blown up in this movie, hence, is the reason Batman is riding the bike.

Posted by FrodoBagginz on 03-13-2008 05:39 AM:

Not sure. All I know is I hate the tumbler. I think it's a horrible looking vehicle and should not have been the batmobile at all.

If it gets blown to oblivion, I will celebrate.

Still no new news on The Dark Knight. However, we can expect a treat in the Blu-Ray release of Batman Begins. 3 different releases of BB will come on July 8th....10 days before the release of TDK.

The first release will just be a single disc Blu-Ray release (with the 6 minute preview of TDK that was shown in Imax theaters before I Am Legend). The 2nd will be a Blu-Ray gift set which will include goodies and the 6 minute preview.

The final release will be a 2 disc regular DVD limited package with some goodies, such as a batman flash drive, but will NOT have the 6 minute preview .

Sad to see that the 6 Minute preview of Dark Knight won't be on the regular 2 dvd set. I have an old computer that cannot play High Def video so I may be screwed when they rip it from the Blu-Ray release.

A major spoiler has been leaked, good luck finding it on a website, I picked up from torrents. I may check it out, if I do i'll report back. The scene shows The Joker and Batman in a 6 minute fight! It's supposedly a scene near the end of the film, so I don't know if it's worth it to watch....hmmm.

Not really movie history in the making. Just the usual early hype over a big film. It will fall down the list once more votes are cast.

I don't recall ever seeing the phenomena you are suggesting. Anyway my money says it stays where it is and we are witnessing the changing of the guard.

Just about every new movie jumps into imdb's top 100 for the week of release, this movie was bound for the top 10.

Dead actor+comic book fanboys=massive hype, it's like The Crow all over again.

The 'top 1000 voters' gives a better indication of where it will be in a few weeks, which is 7.9/10 at the moment.
Saying that, imdb's ratings don't mean much, not with all the kids who will give it a 10 after watching the trailer.

I really liked Christopher Nolan's previous films and I'll try to watch this one at the cinema, but I doubt it will compare to Godfather, Goodfellas, Shawshank.... and the rest.

"Just about every new movie jumps into imdb's top 100 for the week of release"

Got to be one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. Make your point with facts, not nonsense. Which nicely sums up the rest of your views.

"The Dark Knight is the new box office king.

Exceeding initial expectations, the film went on to shatter records left and right this weekend.

The most notable: the new Batman film is now the biggest debut ever in U.S. box office history, especially impressive for an opening on a non-holiday weekend.

The Dark Knight took in $155.34 million Fri-Sun.

That bests Spider-Man 3's 151.1 million in 2007."

It's partially true, presumably it's something to do with IMDB's equation for calculating the top 100. Wall-E (for example) was in the top 10 last week and now it's dropped to #23 and will probably continue to drop... So erm, check your facts before opening your pie-hole next time

Just use your loaf; it might be a good movie but it's not some epic that will still be revered in 20 years time

Posted by koodo on 07-21-2008 02:51 PM:

Holy dumb dumb that are some Batman. 46,915 votes in, less then 1% cast by those under 18, and we remain comfortably #1. Are you listening Batman? Let me repeat. Holy dumb dumb that are some Batman. Gee I hope tomorrow’s numbers don’t burst our bubble. Right eh Batman.

Erm the subject was how just about every new release makes IMDb's top 100. Wall-e did and now is dropping. So.

Posted by Neversoft on 07-21-2008 03:02 PM:

Eh? What? Presumably you don't look at ratings of new movies on IMDB very often but I'm not shitting you or agreeing with valvehead just to upset your delicate sensibilities... New movies DO get bumped up the list.

Batman has 1/6 of the total votes of The Godfather (for example) and the people rating right now are mostly people like yourself. As the number of votes increases the average will come down.

I'm not saying it's a bad movie, but the odds on it staying #1 are remote and your will probably end up eating crow within a few weeks

::EDIT:: Edited to remove a couple of flames as I *think* I now realise your previous post wasn't supposed to be having a go at me

Interestingly enough did not even come close to being in IMDb’s top 250 movies. Come to think about it neither did Titanic, the highest grossing movie of all time. Hmmm. Food for thought.

This may be because Spiderman 3 was absolute dog shit, it was so shit, even Spiderman fans hated it.

Koodo, I don't understand what you arguing about, or who you are even arguing with, or why you are even arguing. A little bit of hype over a new movie and it's made you ejaculate a shitload of complete idiocy. You are making yourself look a cock.

This new Batman is supposed to be good but at the end of the day, its a sequel, its from a comic book, its not in the same league as movies like The Godfather, Pulp Fiction or Shawshank Redemption, it'll slip down the list in much the same way as Lord Of the Rings movies have. I still hope I enjoy the shit out of it when I see it though and I won't be losing any sleep over its predictable fall from the top spot.

I have no idea what you are talking about and frankly don't care. Tell me the last time Godfather, made some 36 years ago, was displaced as #1 by a movie that subsequently dropped in the ratings. Then I may pay some heed to whatever you are yapping about. Until then shut your pie hole.

Holy dildo Batman. 91,097 votes in and we remain comfortably as #1. Did drop a point though. Have done the undoable by knocking off The Godfather. Fear we are in for a real dogfight now. Realize our efforts were little more then a flea on a donkey’s ass when it comes to the likes of The Godfather trilogy and Shawshank. But this is a very different generation. Kinda brings a tear to the eye.

Posted by FrodoBagginz on 07-22-2008 12:02 AM:

I doubt it will stay #1. I would like it to cause I have never seen Godfather and don't plan to cause it doesn't seem like my kind of movie.

But what TDK is doing is amazing. I don't believe Godfather has ever been taken off the #1 spot. Even The Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King only managed to take the #2 spot for a time.

But I think it will come down to TDK being in the top 10 or maybe the top 5 at this point. But I do hope it stays #1. That would be awesome.

The Unstoppable Force (The Dark Knight) has clashed with The Immovable Object (Godfather) in a battle for the #1 spot. It is going to be a tough battle.

God an overall bad idea, it would take a good contender for me to hate a post more then yours at the moment.

The Godfather was an amazing book with ties to real history and real life themes that was made into a movie with an amazing cast. It was a glowing example of cinematic greatness, not an overhyped comic book sequel.

On the brighter side, at least Dark Knight's hype is somewhat worth it I mean, dying during filming/production always leads to *amazing work,* let's just look at:
Game of Death
The Crow
Queen of the Damned

Heads up dipshit, Titantic reached no.4 so don't tell me to back up my points with facts, then make up any old shit you think sounds good. It's easy to rip apart someone's post isn't it?
I'm know people with a bit more common sense will see I didn't literally mean every new movie jumps into the top 100, but movies that are expected to do well like ones with large fan bases, based on books, comics etc...

People who are dying to see this movie are going to be the first to cast their vote and are more likely to give it a postive rating, once a broader non-biased audience have viewed it the rating will drop. I'll admit it isn't going to drop much due to the amount of 10 votes it's getting and plus it's probably a great movie, I don't know as I haven't seen it yet.
But the amount of times I've looked at a new movie on imdb and next to the rating it says 'Top 250 #43', then the next week the rating has dropped loads and it's not even in the top 250 anymore, that's what I was on about. Grindhouse is one example, it was somewhere in the top 100 when it first came out, now it's not even in the top 250.

Also, The Godfather has been knocked off the top spot a number of times, it's been as low as no.14
The Dark Knight knocking it off the top spot and describing it as 'the changing of the guard' now that's probably 'the stupidest thing I've ever heard'.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to watching it but I think I'll wait a couple of weeks, hopefully all the mongs shouting at the screen thinking Batman can hear them will have seen it by then.

Some nice research here re Titanic and the displacement of Godfather as number one. Looked high and low for same type of info and just couldn’t find it. Too bad took so long to come to light. Statement that just about any new movie makes IMDb’s top 100 inane and was challenged as such. Without facts immediately threw discredit on your other views too. Especially the absurdity that ratings don't mean much, not with all the kids who will give it a 10 after watching the trailer. Less than 1% of all votes that have been cast are from those under 18. Look it up dipshit. As for the disposition of TDK time will tell but retain my views. No use yapping anymore on that subject

Posted by David Cameron on 07-24-2008 08:52 AM:

Valvehead stop. You are an idiot if you think Koodo will ever understand common sense, just go with it and be peaceful in the knowledge that you are better than him.

I'd ask him why he thinks The Dark Knight has ammassed the same number of votes in 7 days that Citizen Kane has in 67 years, but he'd probably just say its because Batman is better.

You can't win an argument with a retard, they are too stupid to know when they've lost.

Went last night and surprisingly only about 20% of the seats were sold (asked ticket girl) when we purchased our tickets at 9:55pm (showing started at 10pm) Ultrascreen too (3 times larger than regular screen with better sound system) so you would have thought even for a Wednesday night it would have been busier but apparently not.

Great movie, surpassed my expectations.

I'd ask him why he thinks The Dark Knight has ammassed the same number of votes in 7 days that Citizen Kane has in 67 years, but he'd probably just say its because Batman is better.

You can't win an argument with a retard, they are too stupid to know when they've lost.

Ah go away stupider than most. All relevant points have been made and you continue to yap. Professional help is just a telephone call away. As for Citizen Kane watched at least 3 times. Certainly in the same class as Godfather. Now shoo.

No interest in the vitriol in this thread, but you're either naive or new to IMDB if you're not aware that in the last couple of years it's started to become a very poor measure of the quality of a new movie. Be it fanboydom rushing to rave about a movie, or, more likely IMO, studios finally acknowledging the impact that IMDB can have on box office and 'influencing' the ratings to get ticket sales, new movies are always overrated.

Check my post in the No Country For Old Men thread where it was #14 within the first week of release. http://forum.vcdq.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=78675 It's at #99 now and will continue to slowly slide. Or check your own post in the Iron Man thread: you state #99, it's now #160. It's virtually the same for all blockbusters that are released. Am pretty sure The Departed was in at #4 before dropping down. However, a movie making the top 250 at all is a pretty good indicator that the movie is worth seeing. I've never seen a movie in straight at #1 with such a volume of votes before though (I've been using IMDB since the late 90's when it was acquired by Amazon, the company I worked for then was involved in a knowledge base project for Amazon).

And it is a justified entry. TDK exceeded all my expectations. The story was tight, brilliantly written, the characters were superbly developed - the Joker for example, we know nothing of his history (in this movie), but from conversations, sometimes anecdotal (such as Alfred's jungle bandit), the burning of the cash, his conversation with TF (in the hospital, where he says plans aren't his thing, he just wants to mess with order and establishment), his two versions of how he got his scars (lying to people for no reason/gain), his versions of Cruise's "You complete me", we gradually know everything we need to about him - the sheer brilliant pacing, the flaws in the characters (everything that I know to be the contradictions in Batman, Bruce Wayne's belief that Rachael will choose him, Harvey Dent's white knight in comparison to the Dark Knight...both of whom are the heads side of Harvey's coin)...just everything about the movie is fantastic.

Totally disagree with the notion that it has to be grounded in real world events to be considered a great movie. Much as The Lives of Others, Downfall and Requiem for a Dream are all brilliant films, the LotR movies, Sin City, and TDK are far more my cup of tea and IMO have performances equally as brilliant, writing that is as strong, and have visual artistry far superior to anything in the 'grounded' movies.

Not often that I see a movie on the big screen twice, but I'm planning to see this again on the biggest screen I possibly can, booking for the BFI IMAX...but booked solid (for anything but extreme wing seats) for the next 3 weeks. Worth the wait though, when movies are this good it's worth it!

Good post. Kinda reflects my thoughts. Don't think I could put it in words as well as you have.

Posted by Fionn McCool on 07-25-2008 02:21 AM:

Just saw it today. Excellent movie but it was kinda ruined for me by 2 different critics. Can't find one of the offending reviewers but the other is from Rolling Stone magazine.

If you have seen the movie, please sign up to Rolling Stone and abuse this idiot.

Don't click on the link if you haven't seen the movie, obviously.

That's because half the time you appear to be trying to write in the style of an 18th century dandy!

But I am getting better.

It wasn't a criticism, just an observation

Posted by David Cameron on 07-26-2008 01:20 AM:

It should have been a criticism, if 18th century Dandy was cool, Russel Brand wouldn't be a twat. Come on Neversoft, use the logic.

The magnificent twat here again. After been told umpteen times nobody really cares about what he thinks. Has become a bit of a clown actually. Finally figured it out. He is starved for attention. Suggest he opens a new thread and makes 40 posts to same. Then will be able to bathe in his own brilliance. And leave the rest of us alone.

NS know when the opportunity arises like to give a little shot. Not serious and at times very funny.

Posted by David Cameron on 07-26-2008 03:12 AM:

And again, you fail to join in on a potential group ripping of Russel Brand and you go off on some fucked up losers tangent.

I give up on you, you are an idiot.

I can cope with him, he's almost funny sometimes and you have to give some kudos to anybody who looks and acts like that, yet still rampages through every decent looking woman he comes across

Watch 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' - yeah, it's a pull-your-ballsack-over-your-dick movie, but I have a weakness for chickflicks - and Brand shows you why he gets muff. He plays the archetypal Brit rock star...and he does it very well (as far as the stereotype of the archetypal rock star goes).

I've thought he's been crap and unfunny every time I saw him, but I don't watch much TV so those occasions have been few. He's pretty good in the movie though, even comes across as charming and his character is quite likeable.

Can you believe this? The Godfather is toppled not only from the #1 spot, but now is only the 3rd best film of all time! I thought once a film was #1 it stayed there forever.

Posted by David Cameron on 07-28-2008 03:01 PM:

Thats just as a result from fanboys voting Godfather 1 star to help keep Batman on top. IMDB ranking system has had its flaws exposed, i give Batman another week before its slide begins.

PJEER THE POWER OF THE BAT-NERDS!

BTW I voted 10 on IMDB for this movie just to piss someone off.

I saw it the Thursday night the movie opened, and the following week with Mancandy.

Brilliant movie, Heath Ledger found his niche right before he passed away. He stole the movie.

4 out of 4 stars.

Went to see this thursday , it was awesome.

I'd suggest everyone see it on the big screen, i did'nt even mind the £7.50 admission

Without any commentary from you would be just fine. Interested to see where it lands. Nuff said.

Posted by valvehead on 08-12-2008 04:00 PM:

I still haven't seen this yet and it finishes this Thursday near me so I'd better pull my finger out. Although, it's only no.3 on imdb so I'm not sure if it's worth the money j/k
I watched The Prestige for the second time last night, Nolan certainly knows how to make a film worth watching over again. (same for Memento)

I wonder if The Dark Knight is still no. 1?, changing of the guard and all that...
