yep, itunes won't let you do it for obvious reasons but i use a program called Ephpod (www.ephpod.com) to do it. pretty easy to use, and it's free.
nice, thanks

Theres another way, a program called ipoddownload. Apple tried to ban it but its available via Bittorent. If you put your email down I will email it to you.
Regards.
[EDIT:: No need to paste email addys in here (unless you want spamming like a cunt). Google it... It's easy to find. The software is owned by Apple though so you can't post download info/torrents in here - Neversoft]
Or you could just set your iPod options so it acts as a removable hard drive and simply plug it into another computer and drag and drop the files. Voila.

Yea.... definitely not a need for any other program... it's right there in the options and it functions like any other firewire exernal.

The fact remains that they're there.
And you could just transfer 'em over and use the iTunes folder structuring thing if you want it to be like that.
had to ressurect this thread because i'm having the same problem now. i want to pull a bunch of songs off my friends ipod but the computer won't let and only gives me the option of reformatting when i want to update the software or simply try to access the hard drive. none of the conventional programs work either. anyone know enough about ipods to figure this one out?
