I'd stick to 2 hours per DVD5 and 4 hours for a DVD9 depending on which type burner you have

so let's say every episode is 25minutes exatcly, that's 8 episodes per disc.

now 8 divided by 4.37GB is 1874MB

now break it down to:

25min video
25min audio

let's stick with 224kbps for audio mp2 (that's 41MB)
Now subtract 41 from 1874 = 1843MB left for video

but first let's butract the necessary following:

MPEG/Author overhead = 25MB
ISO = 25MB

so now you have 1711MB left for video. you still following this?

okay let's end this, 9346kbps for video

the end.

Thanx sobaku....i see someone stayed in school

is xvid really compressed that much?...
a 150 MB file needs that big of a file in order to retain quality?......and vice versa a nearly 2 MB file can be compressed into a 150MB file with the same quality?....
these dont sound like high def rips....if they were mpg dvd rips they would be at least 350 MB or so depending on if it was mpeg-1 or 2....

terrible analysis...first off, 8x25 minutes is 200 minutes which is 3 hours and 20 minutes of video, not 2 hours....secondly, 25mb for iso overhead?? WTF is that...why do you even need to create an iso to burn a dvd?

im not bothering to check the math (which is assume is incorrect anyways), but suggesting 9346kbps for an xvid to dvd conversion is crazy. i would say anything over 5000kbps is more than enough....

the best way for me is to encode one episode in CCE using a Q value of 1 and see what bitrate it comes out at....most of the time, clean xvid rips will require about 5000-6000kbps, and that's with a "perfect" CQ 1 rip.

Posted by J Fresh on 05-24-2005 09:15 PM:

fuck...i meant 6 episodes

i was usuing the "bitrate calc" near the end of the post (iso overhead garbage)

and i like creating iso's so i don't have to use nero to burn the DVD.

Also, you wouldn't divide 6 by 4.37. Flip-Flop that. Divide 4474.88 (4.37x1024 for true MB format) by 6. Or about 745MB per episode. So a bitrate of 3711kbps, which is really low, but due to the lossiness of mpeg4, should be more than enough.

As for getting a screenshot, the only way that I know of, is using a screen capturing program that supports DirectX. I like HyperSnap DX.

Also note that adding a menu will throw these calculations off a bit.
