The Rating
I have a suggestion regarding the rating:
The figures regarding audio and video quality are often very misleading when only a few people have voted on the release. Is there a way to make the average rating not showing until at least 5 or 10 peaple have voted?
Better, always show rating but also the number of voters.
Though, there's a problem in what people regard as good or bad. Some will lower the score for MP3 audio because they have 5.1 systems, others will watch the video on a blurry TV and be unable to fully assess its quality. Some prefer lower video quality for better audio while others not... but all that is actually another issue.
The whole review/voting system is getting a massive makeover... Sit back and watch this space (although you may have to watch it for a few months
)
Basically though, you will be "forced" to vote when you review and the two wont be seperate. We will also be rewarding people who consistently do good reviews and don't shit-up the comments threads...
... You read it first here folks!

its tricky to acheive an average when ratings are cast due to massive differences in peoples tastes. True figures are polled from hundreds/thousands of opinions - but these are only ever opinions of those who bother to vote. So its difficult to manage a forum where votes count if only a small handful of people are voting, especially within these forums due to the exclusive nature of the scene.
Most of us just read the scores & make our minds up based on what other people have written, sad - but true.
I cant see how things could improve, but thats not saying that they need to. I like it the way it is & if I was pushed into suggesting improvements, then it would be a new rating added for the ripping/authoring job done by the groups.
Some groups know what they are doing, some dont, so a score on thier authoring efforts would no doubt encourage them to do better. Its annoying when the job is done poorly, it shows the lack of pride & skill of the person who's authored the disc. Anyone whos familiar with the whole ripping/editing process are no doubt aware of the point im making, its either a job well done - or not- period.
Maybe scoring their efforts will improve the rips they put out and possibly make them a little more polished - perhaps reducing the need for the 'oh so many' patches & fixes.
Just because **** pre'd a release before ***** or *****, does'nt mean they 'won' the race. Usually, the releases that turn up after the pre'd ones are better - they learnt from other groups mistakes.
How many times do we see 'proper' in the title?
I would like to know how 'good' the rip is before i waste my time with it. Too many times are there unrepairable rips that just get dumped & nuked - total waste of time, lol
Maybe things could go like this;
V *
A *
M *
R * ('R' being for rip)
Just a suggestion, but honestly, this site is perfect the way it is
maybe only a cosmetic face lift could improve it - but thats a tiny little grumble of no real importance!

Not a bad idea to be honest... I'm tempted to suggest dropping the movie rating because we're not iMDB. I agree that Video, Audio and "problems" are the things that people care about when deciding to download something.

Regarding peoples 'scores' for movies - some that have poor scores I really liked, so its really down to the users/viewers tastes & as you said, thats what IMDB do best. Most people have already checked with IMDB & other sources regarding a release so telling them again is pointless.
This site focuses on the quality of the rip/release and provides info on what group supplied with access to NFO's etc - & thats what it does best - many sites try to copy this, but fall a long way short due them not having such a big following/fanbase or the skills to manage a website for an ever changing scene.
This site is by far better that 'snooze-bin' because folk on here comment on the quality - which is really what we all care about.
Plus the cheeky 'snooze-bin' buggers want $$££$$ off you to view useless comments & file listings -
Most comments are whether its retail or not, yawn!
You'd have to be crazy to give any money to anyone for something thats free (and far better) elsewhere. (meaning here)
Thank heavens for VCD quality
