Adding english subs where necessary?

I dl'd Babel and was wondering how you go about adding the english subs where necessary? You can select the english subs in the menu, but then they are on all the time.

I have never tried this before, so would appreciate and pointers on how to proceed. Thanks.

i'm doing some encoding so i can't check.....

but if it's the curious version of babel i think selecting the 024 ?? english subs(the second set of english subs) will allow the english only when needed....

black blade try this http://www.ripit4me.org/download.html

get the the ripit4me installer....

ok i took the img file an put it in daemon tools.....

start rip it for me program chice the wizard mode....

after chosing wizard mode this is the first screen you see.

i know that if you view the babel image in media player classic the menu gives you the choice of english/spanish and none.....

however in rip it for me you'll see an option for default subtiles stream and your choices are

no default
english
spanish
english

choice the second english subtiltle listing and make sure you check the *enabled* box..

by default rip it4 me will show the first english stream. so you'll have to click to access the second one. that should be the one you want.

subtiles only when english isn't spoken.....

i think in dvd remake this stream is lalebled sub 024(or 025 something like that)

So does that mean you have to convert the avi or does it recognize avi files?

I want to add the subs too?

A bit more info on this ripit4me program please?

I'm not sure if you got this resolved yet, but here's what I did.

1) Get a copy of VSO ConvertXToDVD

2) Unzip the 2 .avi files and the 4 subtitle files (2 .sub files and 2 .idx files), and put all 6 files in the same directory on your computer

3) Start ConvertXToDvd, and load the 2 .avi files using the "+" sign.

If the subtitle files are in the same directory as the .avi files, ConvertXToDvd will automatically load the subtitles for you. When you expand each .avi file, you should see "6 subtitle streams".

4) Click "Convert" and stick a blank in your drive. That's pretty much it. An hour or so later, it's all done.

There are a few English and Spanish subs on there. Selecting the last English one makes the subs come on when foreign dialogue is spoken

black_blade mentioned a menu. so i was thinking he had the curious version of babel.....which is a dvd 5.

and that version does give you an english subs option that is on all the time.....

rip for it for me doesn't accept avi's. for avi's i use the film machine

http://members.home.nl/thefilmmachine

it's free !!! on the home page check out the how to use guide and you'll see how to add subtiltes.very easy.

i use the permanent subs options.the film machine doesn't accept all types of subs. but it does accept the srt format. which is what i see in anything scene related i get......

with the film machine you can use canopus/cce or something freeware like hc (and a couple of others) as your encoder weapon of choice.

oh back to ripit4me

ok it's updated often and will allow dvd decrypter to handle newer protection things whatever multi-nationals are using this season.

the ripit4me installer includeds the fix vts program....if you download an iso and the navigation is rather messed up. this program will often do the trick.problem solved.

i'm sure fix vts does other stuff too. but your going to have to ask the encoding wizards for details.but since it works so quickly i always use that option...

(especially since all you do is click and it does it's stuff automatically with no user input asked for...)

wait here's the the fix vts home page...

http://download.videohelp.com/FixVTS

like many programs ripit4me will allow you to choice which subs you'd prefer.audio streams you'd like as default.....i think there's even an option to handle multi-angles.

if you'd like movie only, movie with menus, full disc. etc etc... i doing some encoding right now.so i can't check all the features....(and since i just do movie only there's got to be a couple i'm forgetting.yep movie only+the ripit wizard mode.that's me)

yeah on the dowload page it does mention dvd shrink. well you don't have to do any processing with it. dvd shrink can be used just as a visual check to see if the the if the changes you made will be in your new edited disc........

actually you don't even have to use the shrink option at all.(although yep the dread shrink is still on my hard drive.)

the cool thing about ripit4me is that it's as easy to use as x to dvd or whatever ....

e.g. it even creates the psl files dvd decrypter uses for you.

Trying this out for the international. I had one sub mispelled and it didnt load. like mentioned above. Sell the same as the AVI and it should auto load them to convert ot dvd.

Your better off waiting for the R1 or R2 release mate, the original releases xvid/dvdr are R3 (Asian)
