-- FAT32 file size limit (http://www.vcdhq.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=85371)

FAT32 file size limit

As far as I know there is no actual workaround the FAT32 4gb limit.

I was told by my buddy that there is a patch to transfer large files like 8-12gb in size on a FAT32 formatted HDD.

I wanted to tell him he was full of shit, but he'd get all worked up. I figured I would ask you guys if it's possible?

I don't know of one, but you can "re-format" your drive to NTFS without losing your data.

I know this because NS told me.

What the fuck does that nigger know

Well the 369 doesn't support NTFS, Go figure.

I'm using a Mac format HFS+ which is a Fat32 format just made for larger files I guess. I don't understand all of it.

As for a patch for fat32 on Windows I've never heard of it. He'll have to prove it to me.

Friend full of shit as far as I know.

Converting it yes, forces FAT32 to allow files that size, no.

Next time you see him say.. smell that , it's bullshit. Mind you most of my mates would think fat 32 was a description in a lonely hearts add.

Its as simple as 32bit not allowing for more than ~4GB of memory to be addressed. Its not anything you can patch, work around or change with any magic tool. You can split the file up but you sure as fuck cant get around the limit.

quote:
32 bits to refer to the location of each byte of memory. 2^32 = 4.2 billion, which means a memory address that's 32 bits long can only refer to 4.2 billion unique locations (i.e. 4 GB).

I sent him an IM that said something like, Hey what patch were you referring to? I can't find any info on it. Then he sent a response that said he misread it.

Well noooooooooo shit, I did my research before formating to HFS+
