Best Apex Model to buy?
Hey, I'm getting a second dvd player....i want it to be an Apex... I currently have a NextBase DVD9000 and it plays great, and plays everything I throw at it.
I want an Apex DVD player around $50-60 bucks and can play like everything, and is flashable + hackable.
Is Apex 1500 the best to go with? and if so? what major store should i buy it from for the best price? thanks
OMG..well i just seen in Nerd-out.com forums that the Apex 1500 model the newer ones doesnt support flashable firmware hack.
Can anyone in Houston recommend me a place where i can get the A/B/C/D serial # models of the Apex 1500 instead of the SV serial # models?
Apex AD-1500 A/B/C/D serial #s = flashable firmware hack works
Apex AD-1500 SV serial #s = firmware hacks do not work
I need a store that I can go to or an online store that i can order a Apex Ad-1500 A/B/C/D serial # model dvd-player if Apex Ad-1500 model is infact the best Apex model to go with
the 1500 is the most powerfull it can handle the highest briate outta all the apex's maybe even every store sold dvd player

The best apex i have found to date is the new 1600. It supports all playback, but cannot be tweaked (yet). It's a great player though. Plays all media i throw at it, even low end dvd-r.
I picked mine up at walmart for $48...

Well, any Apex you buy is going to be inferior quality. I have owned many, and they all make a "cha-chunk" sound when the drawer opens, and smell like burnt plastic when they play any disc. It all depends on what you are looking for in the player. The new 2100 is Progressive scan, and still plays anything you throw at it. However, the 1100W 1MB model can be upgraded to play all regions DVDs, and you can disable the Macrovision (copy-guard) so you can make VHS copies of your DVDs. You can still find that one on Ebay, or if you are lucky you can find one at you local walmart. You will have to do some reading about what you have to look for on the side of the box to ensure you are getting a 1MB model of the 1100W. I swear that model plays anything except DIVX.
CATBOX
i was in my local circuit city recently and spoke to a person in the dvd section and i asked about apex playing vcd and svcd and he had told me that apex stopped making players that played vcd and svcd format. i was only in circuit city becasue i had went to 3 walmarts and bout and returned 3 differant dvd players ( all apex's) differant models (one of which was the 1100w and 1010w) none of the 3 played vcd or svcd. so my question is.....is there any truth to the rumor? is apex not making vcd and svcd players ne more?

BEST APEX MODEL
THE ONE AND ONLY APEX-1200 IS THE BEST MODEL
I have found out the APEX-1200 to be the best model. IT plays everything and is region hackable. You can get it at a major brand store such as Circuit City. SO thats my opinion and go shop away.
lol for christmas i got an APEX AD-5131
circuit city had it for 80$ on christmas eve
its a 3 disc changer, and has all the good digital outputs of nay player
it plays everything i have put in it
even some old OLD OLD!!!(and i mean OLD) realeses put on CHEAP media
i have tested svcd, vcd, xvcd on it
.mp3 and .mpeg movie and .jpeg pic reading support is top notch
i was going to get this 99$ samsung that got some nice reviews for its svcd support
but then i see the 3 discs, and i thought of the usual 3 discs that svcds are
before i was using my computer and my dreamcast(LMAO, LOL)
i finally have a dvd player that plays very nice
i have had NO problems in support
BUT the remote absolutly BLOWS!
ok you got my review
also i saw the apex 1500 at walmart for 40$ and i almost shit myself, i suggest for all those cheap bastards (which i know we all are)
to get that
since i herd my 5131 is just the 1500 remodeled (i have not confirmed that)

There is a firmware upgrade (downgrade?) for the newer 1100's to make them play anything!!!
got mine in nov., upgraded it and the darn thing plays everything I put in there!!!
btw... region free too!!!
not bad for 85 bucks canadian and a 10 cent cheapass cd with the upgrade!

I got the Apex 1010W for christmas and it has played everything i have thrown at it all below worked great no probs at all
vcd
svcd
mpeg1 iso
mpeg2 iso
cd+g (KARAOKE)
dvd
audio cd
mp3
picture cd
all above excluding dvd and regular audio cd were tried on cdr and cd-rw media
Thats all i have tried so far but like i mentioned they all worked 100% flawless
Great player for a walmart price of $48.00
I bought a cheap Apex at Wal-Mart as well.. plays everything I throw at it. But... the audio quality isn't as good as a higher end DVD player. It's not all that noticable unless you actually try them side by side. Unless you are an audiophile it probably won't matter but there is a difference especially in 5.1, much cleaner highs and much fatter lows and there is a slight hiss in the center channel from the Apex, plus no RGB video out, I had to settle for svideo. So now I use my Sony to play DVD's and the Apex to play rips, for what it is you can't beat the price.
AD-1500 WARNING!!!!!
I have a AD-1500 and a AD-1100. Here is my opinion
I have burned SVCDS at 24x and had them play perfect on the 1100, but towards the end of the CD the 1500 will start pixalizing them/screwing with the sound, ect. Burning at 4x will solve this, but if you like burning fast I suggest getting a 1100 model.
I love both, and the 1500 is definently a good buy considering certain models are macrovision/reigion fixable via CD Upgrade. But I suggest the 1100 over the 1500 any day.

First off, HOW CAN I BET 'WRONG WRONG WRONG" it could be a multitude of problems that cause MY problem so I CANNOT BE WRONG.
and no its not my media, I have over 100 svcds in my collection and ALL of them work FINE on the 1100 but SOME that were burned at 24x do NOT work fine on the 1500
THIS IS PERSONAL OPINION, I CANNOT BE WRONG
Sync Problems?
I was thinking about buying a new Apex player. But I was wondering if anyone has had problems with vcd, svcd, xvcd, ect. being out of sync? When I bought my Apex 500w a few years ago it played everything but most things were out of sync. I had to replace the dvd drive with a cheap pc dvd drive to fix it. Im leaning towards the Apex AD-5131. Also, anyone with this player will it play both PAL and NTSC? Any info would be helpful.
5131 does both ntsc and pal and is firmware hackable to do all regions and get rid of macrovsion
