first ten posts

i see this message that pops up during the first ten posts rule. Problem is, it only flashes it on a broadband conection. maybe it could be slowed down a bit for the user to read....i had to print screen in a fast way to catch this one
i know, this message is in faq, but it also shows during the post, and its there for a reason....but its useless if there's no time to read it

:: can't slow it down, and if we could it would get annoying. its generally not down to connection speed how long it displays for anyway, it took the same amount of time on my 10mbit as it does on my 33k6. people just need to work it out for themselves its talked about on the board enough.. -pHo.

Just someone that knows how to script, has to find the particular point when the HTML of that page redirects the browser to the post and change the delay from 1 or 2 seconds - must be sth like that - to 5 or 10 seconds or make the HTML without a redirect instruction at all and have a url on it.

Some people would do that in a minute.

yes, I meant the particular point of the language that is written - in this case php - that contains the html part which is send to the browser and has the redirection instruction for it.

no what you meant is you dont know WTF your talking about. you have presented it as some easy task "that some webmasters would do in a minute" or something close to that. well you could not even READ the scripting it would take to do that in one minute let alone write it.

here is a fucking clue! every message sent has to be stored in a database later so it can be found so peeps can recall it. this actually requires TIME. now this amount of time is normally very small, however, when you have a LARGE site with LOTS of users it is possible for that to actually amount to a couple of seconds. while that is happening the redirect shows up to alert you to this fact so morons dont hit the send button over and over and over continuing to slow the system down with dupe messages.

now when you have 4 to 50 newbies a day signing up and not reading a damn thing about the site saying stupid assed things like "i clicked on every link and i still can not download X movie, where are the files" you have to do SOMETHING to alert them to some of the BASIC ideas behind the site. since that stupid ass does not know a thing about how things work, when the post does not show up, they type it ALL over agian and send it one more time.

they actually took the effort to tell the newbie the post was NOT going to show up untill it had been checked by a moderator to be sure it was compliant with the laws of the gov and the rules of the site which most newbies never read. they did it as a friendly notice and to reduce the workload on the mods reviewing 100 messages a day, each of which had to be opened by the mod, taking a VOLUNTEERS time to review it. when the mod saw the same text as the last message they had to do TWICE the work.

they do such things around here because they try to be friendly and nice. i dont. if i was a mod i would see the dupe post and just say they are too fucking stupid to activly participate in the site and delete the user. hence i will never be a mod around here lol.

now to clear it up ONE more time, the redirect must exist, the message is quite effective for the purpose it serves and to have a seperate message for folks is not only pointless it is by no means an easy fix and there flat out is no fucking reason at all to do it, or bitch about it for that matter.

the mods have plenty of work dealing with issues that pain in the ass peeps like me bring up and argue loudly without having to read whining post because some user does not like what a required redirect page says!

YO pHo, could you make my redirect page say "wow, you got a really nice rack and a great ass" cause my self esteeme seems to be drifting lately.

Problem is, both you and pHo, assume that I want to convince you *I* know how to do it, when I meant I know certain people that could do it in a minute.

"Some people would do it in a minute" is different from "I would do it in a minute" don't you think?

The same thing itself makes the assumption that *I* don't know certain details on vbulletin's programming obvious.

number one, you missed the point of the entire rant. NO ONE can do it in a minute moron it takes more than 200 words to get it done and aint met anyone typing near that rate. so infact you dont know anyone who could do it in a minute so hush.

number two was god damn fucking simple, there is no reason at all to do it, infact there is a good reason for it to remain as it is so why dont ya get off it and stfu.

dont know about pHo but the only thing you have convinced me of is your inability to grasp some pretty simple shit and realize the site dont give a fuck if you dont like the newbie announcement system, it has a purpose your simple mind can not seem to comprehend.

In a minute literally is possible for people not of average intelligence and knowledge on this particular forum type but of course not the point here and not a necessity to be done in a minute.

The forum has a bug, and that is it announces to all 10+ posters the restrictions to 10- posters.

Before some moderator considers the previous message acceptable and right and that has a place here, also consider changing the name of this particular forum to "Moderators' Stubbornness and News on Users' Suggestions/Comments".

you want a second page for the NON-newbies because your a newbie and you dont have a god damn clue what would be involved. here is a clue for you. it would require that users be assigned individule expressed access to the forums and likely a form of ident or ssl login far beyond standard security mesures.

since you have already shown you dont even begin to understand how the boards work or even standard html login systems ill break that down for ya. since this site relies on cookies for such mundane task as identification and post counts if you were to use that cookie based system to present the alternative page, you would effectivly lose ALL the security you built in by moderating the first ten post.

take a user such as myself. despite your ignorance of who i am around here, i am not a mod, nor am i a huge proponant of how the mods do things around here. in fact the exact oppisite is true, i have had some loud and nasty disagreements with them. if say perhaps i wanted to abuse this board and troll the hell out of it, such a hole would be a lovely invite as all one would have to do is bounce from several backbone hubs and register 20 different users. once they took mr nice guy user and got the required cookie information you could exploit it and every single new user screen name you used would be able to work around the moderated posting security.

one could then send such an exploit out to the community and the boards across the net would be overun with cyber punks until a fix was produced.

see moron, your not asking them to FIX a bug, your asking one be installed.

like i said, there is plenty of stuff the mod team does that i do not agree with and i scream it just as loud, but this is one of the damn things they do right and since you dont even understand it you look like a dumbass for whining about it.

cws, yes I did read the whole thread, that is the only thing I wanted to cover tho, the rest I believe you covered in a clear but not so nice way, and yes this guy has been "complaining" about a lot since he has showed up, but I find the thread about too many sticky's funny to be honest, that was a nice 5 minute laugh. but you know, not everyone accepts what is being done and unforunately if they don't like it, they can shove their idealisms straight up their ass and use it for a colonic irrigation but you know /me shrugs

The first two I like, the third case I hate and flame.

well i tried to do the second one and then did the third. the only reason you get banned is because of the second in which case you never worry about reprocussions of the third.

in the end, i felt the conversion to fartswarm was creaative and hillarious. its effect has been recieved and its value now diminished. i will discontinue disrespecting you in that manner but will maintain i found it quite humorous.

perhaps at some point in time you will set up your own board and make all the changes you desire. when you do, give me a hollar and i will come and demonstrate how those weaknesses are quite undesirable. (evil grin)
