Review Chicago (2002)

Musicals, Movies, and Catherine Zeta Jones, oh my. In the new film which is generating complete oscar buzz.

This new film which really belongs to Renee Zellwegger, solidifies her standing as one of America's Hottest Actresses. Zellwegger stars as Roxie Hart, a musical performer, who dreams of making it big in the Windy City of Chicago, also the premise of a Tony Award Winning play.

She gets her wish, coming to the big city where she hopes to follow in the shadow of Velma Fisher, (Catherine Zeta Jones) a reknown star of the stage and film. One wrong step and leads the star and starlet in prison, where they land under the scornful eye of Matron Morton (played by rap star turned actress Queen Latifah).

While they she comes in the prescence of reknown lawyer, Billy Flynn, played by Richard Gere (in a performance reminiscent of The Cotton Club).

Bob Fosse's influence is felt in this visually beautiful, up-lifting and just dum de dum musical.

Chicago has great performances all around, including possible nominations for Zellwegger and Zeta-Jones.

Chicago is 1 Hour and 53 minutes long and is rated PG13 for language.

My rating:

One time, my cousin Walter got this cat stuck in his ass. True story. He bought it at our local mall so the whole fiasco wound up on the news, it was embarrassing for my relatives and all, but the next week he did it again, different cat, same results, complete with another trip to the emergency room! So I run into him a week later in the mall and he’s buying another cat and I says to ‘em "Jesus Walt, what are you doing? You know your just gonna get this cat stuck up your ass too, why don’t you knock it off?" And he says to me "Brodie, how the hell else am I supposed to get the gerbil out?" My cousin was a weird guy....

Good, I've been waiting to see your review on this movie. I've heard great things all around about it though, we don't get many "small" release movies in Indiana though, I guess we don't have a large movie going crowd, but believe me, over the past few years, I've noticed a huge increase.

Now I'm waiting to see if your About Schmidt review does the movie justice.
