apparently this is being nuked in a number of places (bitrate exceeds 2450Kbps)

i've always thought that was sort of a stupid rule, since it's lower than the svcd spec itself dictates (FLiX would have slipped in just under the wire of the actual svcd max vid bitrate), but nukers who go by svcd council 2k2 rules will nuke for bitrate that peaks to 2530 (just like some nuked gangs of new york, for the same reason).

Yes this is NTSC
Yes it is done with DVD2SVCD with 2530k max bitrate.

Actual specs for SVCD is 2520k not 2450k, so I suppose it could be an issue in older DVD Models.

dunno where you're getting that information. actual specs for svcd are 2.6Mb/s for video bitrate (NOT for combined vid + audio, as some mistakenly believe).

actually, i believe that the intent in the specs was for the bitrate to be 2,600,000 bps; if that's so, then 2,600,000 / 1024 = 2,539Kb/s, not 2520.

if 2.6Mb/s means actual megabits, then 2.6 * 1024 = 2,662Kb/s, which is even higher.

either way, 2530Kb/s falls within spec.

Here ya go, throw your so-called claim to doom9.net

http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mp...-svcdoutput.htm

Another program would be Nero SVCD specs 2520k/224k

i base my "so-called claim" on the svcd specs as published by phillips. have a look for yourself -- unless you'd prefer to take the word of doom9 posters over the publishers of the actual standard.

I go by what makes the SVCD for myself (ie: TMPEG/CCE/NERO), and I don't see what your harping over to prove a point of 10k on a SVCD anyhow with a phillips pdf file.

Posted by lo.pro on 02-08-2003 05:31 AM:

not harping. you're the one who started getting nasty with your "so called claim" remark. :p

nero is bloatware, i woudn't use it to burn anything with, so i can't say.

as for tmpg or cce, they can be set to whatever bitrate, so i don't see the point. cce at least tends to spike over whatever you have it set to as max bitrate, so knocking it down a few k isn't a bad idea.

*shrug* as for it only being 10k, that's true, but in the case at hand, that 10k decides whether this release is out of spec or not; i say it isn't, which was my point to begin with.

and since phillips is one of the ones who developed the svcd standard, and their specs are considered the reference standard for svcd, what they have to say on the issue seems pertinent, to me anyway.

Only reason I said it may have problems in older player is because I used to own a APEX600A, and if that bitrate went over 2520/224 it would skip. Releases a few years ago people would know if it went over becuase they owned the same DVD player. But newer ones you can basically use whatever sees fit and it will play. But since the majority of groups use DVD2SVCD and it's default max is 2530k then ya really can't complain.

Insert DVD, click go, and a few hours your done.

But I have no beef, as long as it plays and looks good. I usually enjoy the real talented rips with the extras, commentaries, menus and so-forth. But thats me. And of course I buy the DVD if the movie has what it takes to earn my money.

Good debating with yas lo.pro

Peace Out
