Best Army of Darkness DVD?

Well, I own 2 different VHS versions of AOD and have been shopping around for the best DVD version. I've seen 3 different ones already and I hear that there's a "Boomstick" edition coming on March 11th. There is a 2 disk Directors Cut with commentary already out, what more could you want?
It sucks because sometimes the DVD with the best features is not the one with the best transfer. So is the Directors cut thats out now worth it or should I wait for the "Boomstick" edition?

Try the "Official Bootleg" version. It's made up to look like a bootleg. The commentary on it is great. It's almost as good as the movie.

i have the official bootleg, but the 2disc is the version to go for really. the bootleg is missing the US theater ending (which i personally prefer) and the 2disc has both versions of the film, which is kinda cool. its still a good disc tho.

Whats on the cover of the 2 disk set? Does it have the commentary? I also preferred the theatrical ending so that may be the way to go...

pffft UNBELIEVERS! the original ending was waaay better.. but everything else in the theatrical was better. Such as "Good, Bad... I'm the guy with the Gun" is not in the "Official Bootleg" version... What is on this Broomstick edition?

There was a 2-disc special edition released just before Xmas here in the UK. It has both versions of the film and a directors commentary with Raimi and Campbell over the "directors cut" disc.

A must have DVD for everyone!

I read this on the Deadites forums: http://www.deadites.net/

"As you may or may not know MGM currently own the rights to Army Of Darkness in most foreign territories. They have been restoring the director's cut using original film elements, unlike Anchor Bay which used video footage for some of the scenes.

This restored version is now available on Hong Kong Region 3 NTSC DVD, available from www.yesasia.com who ship worldwide.
I recently received a copy of this version, and I'm pleased to say it's outstanding.
The anomorphic picture is superb throughout unlike the Anchor Bay version which got murky and VHS-like at times. It has all the scenes included on the Anchor Bay Director's Cut disc. Not only that, but it contains a short scene of Evil Ash ripping off Sheila's clothing, which was cut from the Anchor Bay version. It has a 5.1 soundtrack and all the extras from the Anchor Bay disc (commentary, deleted scenes, the s-mart ending & the trailer).

Even though the packaging quotes the time as 93mins, it actually runs well over 96mins, and is slightly longer than the Anchor Bay version. This is most complete version I have ever seen, and are likely to see.

It's a pity Anchor Bay couldn't get the extra footage in decent quality first time round, but if you want yet another cut of AOD, here it is:

http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDep...de-w/aid-13162/ "

I'm placing my order now, though I'm gonna use hivizone.com instead.

Well I ended up deciding to wait till I see whats in the Boomstick edition before I make the purchase.. until then I'll just watch the lame VHS copy I have.

Darkslide, the reason I liked the theatrical ending better was, even though it was more commercial I thought the "future" ending was to much like the ending from ED2. I really thought the "S-Mart" ending was more original... Plus like you said they took one of my favorite lines out of the directors cut, I was shocked when I saw that, hell why not just take out the boomstick speech or"hail to the king baby..."

Thanks for all the info guys

From what i can figure this 2-disc boomstick edition is the Exact same as the numbered LE from a few years back. Boy those people selling that for 100 on ebay are gonna be pissed about the rerelease haha
