I haven't ... is it any good? I've heard that of the 5-book series, the first and the last books are the good ones, which unfortunately means that you have to read the three in the middle if you want to get to the end.

{edit} and children of dune is the second book, if I'm not mistaken.

The SCI FI Version of Dune, IMO was an absolute masterpiece. Some argue that it was not good, but I enjoyed it a lot more than the classic movie.

Children of Dune is truely an epic, it is amazing. Truely, truely amazing.

Oh btw, 9/8.5 [if i could, so 9 :P]/10

Posted by horizonstar on 03-06-2003 02:55 AM:

yeah, I liked the SF version too. I still like the original movie because <gasp> I saw it before I ever read the book. imagine my surprise when I found out they didn't actually have Weirding Modules.

so, if you can handle all the departures from the book, there's apparently a longer director's cut of the original movie that's "even better" (in my case) or just "better" (for folks who didn't like it) than the original. I have yet to find it at any video stores.

maybe i'll go back and read Children ...

Semi off topic, but in response to a previous post:

Children of Dune is the third book in the series.

1. Dune
2. Dune Messiah
3. Children of Dune
4. Godemporer Dune
5. Chapterhouse Dune

Personally I liked the first book by far the best, though of the other 4 I personally liked Children of Dune, though it gets kinda weird.

The fourth book I personally didn't care for, and the second book I don't remember too well. As for the last book, its kinda different, though I thought it was at least alright. Though the ending didn't really give a lot of closure.

I read Children of Dune about 2 years ago... it was good. REAL GOOD. So i'm hoping this movie will live up to the text version.

didn't frank herbert die while in the middle of that one, and it was finished by his son? i know that's the case with the final book in one of his series'.

Just to elaborate on this thought, I was intially confused about why they'd skip the second book in the rather well done SciFi series of adaptations... and I discovered that the mini-series is actually both books 2 and 3 together, though it only retains the title Children of Dune.

http://www.scifi.com/dune/about/prodnotes.html
"JOHN HARRISON, director of Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, writer of Dinosaur and writer/director of Frank Herbert's Dune was entrusted with the job of adapting Dune Messiah and Children of Dune, the second and third novels respectively of Frank Herberts's six-book Dune Chronicles, into another blockbuster television event."

but i didnt see any screener messages...

Excellent release!

Absolutely excellent release, just finished watching it. There are 4 or 5 black and white sections, each about 30 seconds long. Nothing to interrupt your enjoyment of this beaut. Major appropriations go out to KSI for this one.

The movie itself was excellent. Seems slower paced than the first series, but it works well to the style of the 2 books it's covering. The word that comes to mind is epic.
