Thumbs up Review: (2003) Bringing Down the House with Steve Martin and Queen Latifah

Comedies are a dime a dozen, and when I heard that Steve Martin was teaming with Queen Latifah to make a comedy, I know we have a bonafide hit movie in the making.

Martin leads a humdrum life as, Peter Sanderson, an attorney who finds the "highlife" by chatting in a chat room, where he meets Charlene(Queen Latifah). who he thinks is another Attorney, but it turns out that "Charlene" is an escaped convict who enlists Sandersons aide to prove her innocence.

When he refuses to help her, Charlene decides to turn Peters life upside down, by bringing down the house, on his friends, family, including his ex wife, and woo a billion dollar client client, played with great snootiness by Joan Plowright.

Supplying the comedy in this laughfest is Eugene Levy, who plays Peter's Best friend, and "Hip White Guy", and "suitor" to Charlene, and Michael Rosenbaum (TV's The Practice) as the bad guy to Charlenes Innocence.

Bringing Down the House is Queen Latifahs first try as executive Producer, and she scores, as it serves well to the first movie since her oscar nominated performance from Chicago, and Levy's funniest role since the original American Pie.

Bringing Down the house is rated PG13 for language, some violence, and some drug use.

Movie opens:March 7, 2003

My rating: a 8.5 out of 10.

I think I will have to see this movie. Looks cheezy, but might be good for a Friday night laugh! Thanks for the review.
