Hmmm..I dunno how I feel about this one..

Leonardo DiCaprio Eyed for Iron Man

Ain't-It-Cool-News hinted last night that Avi Arad mentioned Leonardo DiCaprio might appear in a Marvel movie soon and now IGN Filmforce has a follow-up saying that movie is Iron Man!

IGN FilmForce learned earlier this week that the dream choice to portray the title of role Tony Stark in Iron Man is none other than... Leonardo DiCaprio. We held off on reporting this because, by all accounts, the young Oscar-nominee has NOT been offered the role... yet. He is simply at the top of the filmmakers' wish list, according to our sources.

Iron Man is the story of Tony Stark, inventor and owner of Stark Enterprises. His work in corporate espionage and international terrorism leads to an accident that forces him to go on life support in the form of a high-tech bodysuit. This also gives him an alternate identity, a being capable of a heroism Tony Stark could not achieve.

leo might be too young, but remember, originally tony stark was a POW in 'nam, wasnt more than mid 20's at that point in his life (course the suit sucked horribly at that point too)...

downey's a much better pick, he just needs to put on some weight...

havent seen terrence yet, but he does look somewhat like rhodes (meaning he's black)... seems he's scheduled to play luke cage as well, another marvel property... unfortunately luke cage (as well as powerman) sucks...

Anyway, on topic... I don't really care much for the Iron Man series as well as I do the rest of DC & Marvel Comics. Hopefully, I will be pleasantly surprised when this comes out. The recently animated movies that have come out were not that good IMO.

Batman done to death, Superman was average, Spiderman still very much entertains me, X-Men was awesome but I think that was my favorite comic as a kid, now...

What I would really like to see is a truely great "Hal Jordan" Green Lantern film with all the FX etc... Most of you probably won't agree but I would pay to see it twice if it were done right.

filming is set to begin in 8weeks time with a may 2nd 2008 release , and now gwyneth paltrow has been cast as the love interest "virginia pepper potts" Read here

there was a brief discussion of this on NPR today, while talking to the Motley Fool about stock picks, they discussed Marvel branching into their own film studio, with Ironman being their first production, and assessed the risks v. rewards of doing it all on their own.

either way, iron man still has a lot of potential, and being produced by a comic studio gives me a good indication of how true to the written word they'll keep it.
