James Bond News
Ok, if I'm sweatin' MovieGod and Petrocs, feel free to flame me and all. Anyways, here's some news about the 007 Franchise:
First, is "Jinx," which is the franchise MGM is hoping to create after Halle Berry's character in "Die Another Day," where basically she has sex, kills and saves people, and then...well...it's in the tradition of the James Bond character. This was found from http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hp&cf=prev&id=1808475849 written by the former "upcomingmovies.com" writer Greg Dean Schmitz:
MGM has been making every effort in recent years to launch "franchises" as often as possible, to the extent of consecutively developing and greenlighting sequels to movies that might not have gotten made as quickly at rival studios (two examples this year are Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde and Barbershop 2). MGM's bread and butter franchise is 'James Bond', but since those movies only come out every three or four years, that means that Bond-less years have a massive box office gap that they need to fill somehow. So, MGM has been trying to develop a spin-off for quite some time, and with the casting of Halle Berry as "Jinx" in Die Another Day, they found their top contender (after having once considered using Michelle Yeoh's character from Tomorrow Never Dies). Following her Oscar win, Halle Berry is continuing to develop herself as an action star (of all things; it's not the standard post-Oscar strategy), with Catwoman in development, along with playing 'Storm' again in X2. Jinx seemed like a character that was nearly custom-made for Berry, combining her bikini-friendly sex appeal with a playful, wisecracking attitude. I wasn't a huge fan of Die Another Day (the more new James Bond movies they make, the more I appreciate the Sean Connery originals), but Halle Berry's Jinx was definitely one of the better things about it (and I'm not talking about the frequent skin she showed off). So, I guess I'm fairly neutral about the idea of this movie at this point. The thing that might win me over would be if this franchise-to-be took a different direction away from its James Bond roots, somehow (which are definitely extremely formulaic from film to film). Perhaps rather than relying heavily on elaborate stunt sequences and cliched "villains", the Jinx series could... oh, I don't know, focus on character development, challenging our perceptions of what modern spy stories can go thematically (not geographically), resulting in fascinating tales of espionage and suspense? Possible? I don't know. Let's just hope it's not made into a spy spoof comedy about her ability to "jinx" the bad guys.
James Bond 21
Also from the same writer is some info about "James Bond 21." This article can be found at http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hp&cf=prev&id=1808476049
James Bond is the energizer bunny of movie franchises... despite some of the films not always getting great reviews (Die Another Day did slightly better on that front than other recent entries), the series continues to do very well in U.S., U.K. and international box office, so there's no sign of it ever slowing down (indeed; the producers are ramping up a spin-off in the form of Jinx to essentially double the ummm... pleasure). At one point, #5 was expected to be the point at which Pierce Brosnan would be signing off, but it appears now that he's likely to be doing one or two more yet after this one, so speculation about "replacement Bonds" is still a bit premature (though I still say Clive Owen is the guy for the job). My brief take on Die Another Day is that I liked the first half, when it felt a bit more like a Mission: Impossible movie, but then was disappointed by the second half in which it took Bond-style action into some of the more ridiculous realms we've yet seen (ie, ultimately, I didn't care for it). I have lots of ideas about how Bond could be fixed (especially once they get a new 007 actor), but I guess I would sum it up to say that I think the series needs to avoid being quite as incredulous as it often is. Today's technology is pretty amazing that the script shouldn't have to go so far into the realm of science fiction to provide spectacular stunt sequences. Heck, how about a Bond movie where James is caught up in an "old school" battle in some remote part of the world where horses and swords are the norm? Regardless of my advice, the slant this time around will probably be more of the same. The Bond series is nothing if not reliable, even if that means repeating the same mistakes.
And yes, Pierce Brosnan has signed on to play James Bond for a 5th time.
Links and More
Erg...I read something about Bill Clinton signing on for a cameo in James Bond 21.
Also, CBS and it's other owned channels (TNN and UPN) have purchased television rights for Die Another Day. It cost them 30 million.

Release Date/Filming
Here's some news concerning the release date/filming schedule, if your interested. Source: http://www.mi6.co.uk
The first published rumour of Bond 21's possible schedule was revealed this week in the "Bond List" newsletter by Matt Sherman from 007Forever.
In the context of speculation that Pierce Brosnan may attend the 6th Bond Collector's Weekend, it was revealed that Pinewood has reportedly been reserved from 1st August 2003 onwards for Bond 21 production.
Update: Pinewood Studios have now confirmed this in a statement:
"The Bond offices have been pencilled in, and the stages where all the filming takes place have been booked by Eon Productions."
Tomb Raider 2 has wrapped recently, and Thunderbirds - which was delayed due to "Die Another Day" overrunning - is currently shooting across 5 stages at Pinewood.
Shooting would not be likely to start until January 2004 however due to set construction on the sound stages.
MI6 have received intel from three reliable sources that EON are targeting a December 2004 release for Bond 21. This would give the production one month longer than the filming period that "Die Another Day" encompassed.
This news contradicts statements from MGM chiefs that they want a 2005 release and another three year gap in the hope of emulating the box-office success of "Die Another Day". The flagging movie studio has been quick to distance itself from relying on the Bond franchise cash-cow after each of the last three Brosnan outings.
lol...actually I like this story...very well done..
