Entertainment News for Week Ending April 6, 2003

courtesy of CCazual and Petrocs comes the latest in entertainment news for us to gossip on..lol... I know am shocked to the news...

Heres a scary opener,

NEW YORK -- Fresh off her recent Oscar nomination, Kathy Bates is getting the royal treatment from Walden Media. The "About Schmidt" star is set to play Queen Victoria in Walden's upcoming big-screen adaptation of the Jules Verne classic "Around the World in 80 Days." The project reteams Bates with Frank Coraci, who directed the actress as Adam Sandler's mother in "The Waterboy." The "Days" cast includes Jackie Chan, Steve Coogan, Jim Broadbent, Johnny Knoxville and Cecile de France (HR 3/14). The film follows the highflying adventures of Phileas Fogg (Coogan) and Passepartout (Chan) and the characters they meet on their trip around the world. "Days" began shooting last month, with locations planned in Thailand and Berlin. Hal Lieberman and Bill Badalato are producing. Overseeing the project for Walden -- which is headed by Cary Granat -- are senior vp production Alex Schwartz and director of development Kisha Cameron. Bates is repped by the Susan Smith Co. (Ian Mohr

Still say Vin Diesel can not act:

Paramount Feeling Footloose
Studio preps a full-on musical version of the 1984 hit.

March 28, 2003 - Believe it. Today's Variety is reporting that producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the team behind Chicago, have made a deal with Paramount Pictures to develop a musical-style remake of the 1984 hit Footloose. The original film starred Kevin Bacon as a city boy who moves to small town where rock music and dancing have been banned. The soundtrack featured a slew of hit songs, but they were primarily heard in the background. The new version will bring the songs to the forefront by having the film's young cast sing and dance the musical numbers.

Zadan and Meron plan to use a number of songs from the original film, updating them for contemporary audiences. There will be four new tunes penned by Dean Pitchford, the original's writer. He will return as executive producer.

Zadan told the trade, "This is going to have a more experimental feel and will be closer in tone to Moulin Rouge than Chicago. ... We want to bring aboard as director of photography James Chressanthis, who worked on our Judy Garland movie and has researched the latest cinematic technology."

Zadan said the budget for the film will be kept under $30 million.

The producing duo are also working on a Guys & Dolls musical remake (the one that Vin Diesel has been associated with) over at Miramax, and Fahrenheit 451 at Warner Bros. for writer-director Frank Darabont.

The World Entertainment News Network claims that Drew Barrymore has been approached by Kevin Spacey to join his sophomore directing effort, Beyond the Sea. Barrymore would portray wholesome starlet Sandra Dee opposite Spacey as her late husband, crooner-actor Bobby Darin.
But WENN, citing the tabloid Star Magazine, claims Dee doesn't approve of the choice of Barrymore. Dee reportedly finds the Charlie's Angels star too "worldly" and would prefer Reese Witherspoon.
An interesting side note: there was an eight-year age difference between Darin and Dee but there's a sixteen-year gap between Spacey and Barrymore!
Beyond the Sea is a biopic of Bobby Darin who found fame and fortune as a music and screen star only to succumb to heart trouble at age 37. Filming begins in June.

Drew is in Hawaii btw, trying to get pics of her to post here...

Warner Bros. has confirmed that the forthcoming sequel to SCOOBY-DOO will be released in theaters on March 26, 2004. Filming gets underway in Vancouver on April 14. One telling aspect of the Warner Bros. press release is that the studio didn't officially refer to the film as SCOOBY-DOO 2 or SCOOBY-TOO but as just the sequel to SCOOBY-DOO. From that we may infer that the sequel's title is still up in the air. Warners also released a general premise of the film (written by James Gunn, the same screenwriter from the first film.) As WB describes things, "Scooby and the gang confront an anonymous masked villain who is plotting to take over the city of Coolsville by wreaking mayhem with a monster machine that creates Mystery Inc.'s classic foes like The Creeper, Captain Cutler and The 10,000 Volt Ghost." Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini all return for the sequel, as well as the same computers who made the first CGI Scooby.

enjoy all news until next report..

Scooby Doo was dumb, and with most sequels being worse than the original, I know this will suck. Or, I'm "almost positive" it will suck.

Well, I'd like to add this then. Hopefully this won't suck like Joe Somebody.
Tim Allen will star in Revolution Studios' comedy "In the Pink" for producer Dan Halsted. No director or start date has been set. The project centers on a Texas playboy with a cushy corporate job who suddenly finds himself out of work. To make ends meet, he turns to selling Mary Kay cosmetics -- which is a disaster at first, but he eventually learns the secrets to understanding women and becomes a top seller. "Pink" was picked up by Revolution as a pitch last year for Steve Brill to write based on an idea by former "Saturday Night Live" talent producer Ryan Shiraki (HR 3/27). A writer is being hired to rewrite the project with an eye toward a start this year. The project will be overseen for Revolution by development executive Scott Bernstein. Allen, repped by WMA and Messina Baker Entertainment, is attached to star in Paramount's remake of "Father Knows Best" and is in discussions with the Walt Disney Co. about a potential two-picture deal that would include another installment of the successful "The Santa Clause" franchise (HR 2/11). to make a good scooby film, they need to realise that a real dog on a shit load of good drugs is better than some CGI piece of poop they made the last time.

i think the ghost right at the beginning of the first film looked great mind, but i switched off about 10mins into it. utter cack.

Re: Thomas Jane Cast as THE PUNISHER

Nice! The Punisher is my favorite comic strip of all time. Proves that you don't need superpowers to be frickin' awesome. All you need is a lot of training, some really big guns, and infinite ammo.

as for the punisher, we all know "Mr pHo's : The Punisher" starring Henry Rollins would be much better. all in black and white, with a shit load of swearing and a huge fucking body count. thats what the punisher is all about : not giving a fuck!
