Which summer movie will be the big blockbuster of the year?
Well, I could be wrong on this one. But I am picking the Matrix Reloaded. I don't think we will see Spiderman numbers but I beleive it could get close to $300 million domestic. Here are a few of my predictions. Looks like a big summer.
Matrix Reloaded 275 million
The Hulk 225 million
Terminator 3 225 million
X2 220 million
Bruce Almighty 175 million
i think matrix will quite comfortably beat spiderman. i loved spiderman, but i think theres too many people hyped up for matrix not to pull in some big big numbers

That's crazy talk. I don't think there's a shot in hell that The Matrix will beat Spiderman. And Bruce Almight looks like it has big time "bomb" potential.
-K
Matrix is an R rated movie. Its gonna be tough to beat Spidey number.
X2, Matrix, and Hulk will make over $200,000,000
T3 might depending on how strong the movie is and if it can generate repeat business
Bruce Almighty? hmmm..could make $175,000,000 but I'm wouldnt bet on it
Bad Boys 2 and/or Charlies Angels 2 could push $150,000,000+
American Wedding might be lucky to gross $125,000,000 depending on if the fan base is still there

I may be late to post on this, and since *tune to Chicago* "Cellophane shoulda been my name, Mr. Cellophane...", my post ain't gonna get responded too so dump me and it in the "Worthless Shit" category.
In terms of summer movies...I'll compile a list of box office winners, er...how I think certain movies will do through the weeks and my estimates along with it. Maybe this could be the future of the box office threads: a competition to see who gets closest...just my idea.
May 2nd, 2003
#1 X2 Will be opening in 3, 741 theaters, a NEW record. I am expecting either 77 million or a humongous 93.5 million opening (first opened in 3,035 theaters, and averaged 18,007 per theater. I'm expecting 25,000 per theater with this one. Spiderman opened in 3,615 theaters and averaged 31,000 per theater. If Lord of the Rings didn't break that, I don't expect this one too either) than to make maybe another 30 million during the week. By the time the Matrix 2 comes out, this baby will already have around 205 million. I expect it to close at around 265. It will be affected by The Matrix. Excellent Reviews for x2 so far.
Lizzie McGuire will stay steady for a while, I expect a solid run, end at 50 million.
May 9th, 2003
Daddy Day Care will bomb, and make 35 million TOTAL.
May 15th, 2003...MATRIX...The rating doesn't matter on this, I know many 50 year olds who will be in line on May 14th at 10 pm! Super Wide opening, I'm expecting 80 million opening, and the rest will depend on reviews. I expect maybe a closing at 275. Think about it. Terminator 2 made at least 200 million and it was rated R, and this is like 11 years later!
Down With Love-Expect a solid 65 million. It will be affected by The Matrix, but it's been anticipated and Renee has a bigger fan base now.
May 23, 2003...Bruce Almighty-I expect a 52.5 million opening. We haven't seen much from Carrey recently, and reviews will play a factor in this one. Teens will see it though, and I think that it will go past the success of Anger Management. I can't see it passing 200 though, so I'm doing a final as around 130 to 170 million. We have the Pixar movie the next week, which, knowing teens and adults and kids combined, will be huge. Big drop for Bruce Almighty.
The In-Laws...null...don't expect it to succeed 35 million. At a max. Open at 12 mil.
May 30, 2003...Finding Nemo...
Monsters Inc opened at 60 million or so in about 3, 100 theatres. This will be in more, but I don't think it will get quite the reviews. Still, this will have a bigger opening than Monsters Inc. I see a close of 235 million and an open at 75.
The Italian Job...remake...Open at 7 to 15, depends on reviews. Solid 45 final at a max. Will stay a while. I don't see it competing against Finding nemo.
Wrong Turn...I see this as Halloween Ressurection, maybe a bit better. Open at 7 million, ends at 30 million.
I'm typing up June now.
Some of these movies will have to bomb...It's hard picking the ones that will.
June 6, 2003
2 Fast 2 Furious
Dumb...Dumb...Dumb...
vin Diesel is losing popularity and he ain't in this one! Paul Walker hasn't been too big, and he's the lead. I expect a 20 million opening and a closing at 75 million at a max. Fast and Furious was a sleeper hit, in a way. This will disappear quickly.
June 13, 2003
The may hits will be at #5-10 by this time. Josh Hartnett's last movie bombed and so did Harrison's Ford, but the addition might be a hit. 60 million total at a max, 15 million open at a max. Dumb and Dumberer will make 25 million and close at 85. From Justin to Kelly will get about 7 million opening, close at 40. The show is getting more popular. Rugrats Go Wild I don't wanna talk about.
June 20, 2003
The HULK...#1 regardless of what the teens think. I suspect a 55 million opening to a 75 million opening. Americans aren't made of money, and lots of us thought everything last year would be a hit, and everything wasn't. Still, this should be some kind of hit. Close at 255 million. Reviews will be good.
June 27, 2003
Charlie's Angels...has addition of Bernie Mac...I can't see it surpassing 60 million though.55 at a max opening, 40 at the least. Closes at 135 million if it gets the 40 million opening, and close at 145 if it gets the 60 million. (Don't ask about the logic) Last one's run ended quickly after it's opening.
Two Weeks Later...4 million opening, ends at 15 million.
I'll do July and August tomorrow unless you hate this idea.
couldnt you just sum it up?
I got movies to go to..by the time I finish reading your posts we'll be in August

T3 will really own some ass. It'll prolly be poo, but we will all go see it.
If I remember reading correctly, out of the top 10 grossing movies of all times, only one was R rated.
The Matrix Reloaded will probably do the best out of all summer releases. But I'm predicting that Hulk won't do as well as many people think. Bruce Almighty has Jim Carrey in it, and he really hasen't done anything good at all recently, people are probably looking for another The Truman Show, so this may do quite well this summer too.

Most of you won't wanna read this, but I'll be checking back next weekend and every weekend after to see how accurate I am, and if I do well, I'll follow it with a big HA. Here's the remainder of it.
July Forecast
July 2nd, 2003
Legally Blonde 2-Gotta love Reese. This will have a strong 27 million opening, and will stay in theatres for a while. Americans have loved comedies this year (Bringing Down The House, How to Lose A Guy in 10 days) so this will have 20 million the following weekend. An end at 140 million.
Terminator 3-I think this might flop. To be safe...I'm going to go with a 45-50 million opening, a strong week, and a strong weekend but then a quick drop to 20 million the next weekend. I think a final gross of 175 in the US, but a huge worldwide box office seems suited.
Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas-I think this movie is gonna bomb. 30 million final gross.
July 9th, 2003
Pirates of the Caribbean-er...don't know anything about it, but that it's Bruckheimer. 15 million opening, 10 million next, 50 million total.
July 11, 2003
Leaugue of Extroardinary Gentlemen...well...Sean Connery? No one else I know of besides the Scottish guy, so I'm going with a 5 million opening, 17 million final gross.
July 18, 2003
Bad Boys II-Depends on reviews/rating. If it's R, I'm going with a 100 million total, and if it's pg-13, well, 150 million seems well suited. Opening at 20 if R, 30 if PG-13. (Yes, there have been sequels differing in ratings from the original)
How to Deal-Er...Mandy Moore...some teen guy...may be a sleeper. Opening at 12 million, ends at 35 million.
Johnny English-Well...making a lot internationally, but I'm gonna say 7 million opening here, and a small drop the following week, and ends at around 35 million.
July 23, 2003
Mission w/out Permission-B.O.M.B.-Makes 15 million total.
July 25, 2003
Lara Croft...B.O.M.B...25 million opening, and a quick slip and finishes at 57 million.
Seabiscuit-Think it might be a hit. 20 million opening, and stays strong, finishes at 75.
Spy Kids 3-D...17 million opening, finishes at 65 million.
August Forecast
August 1, 2003
American Wedding...if it has a strong advertising campaign, an opening at 35, finishes at 95 million.
Gigli...B.O.M.B...or that's what I hope. Hate the couple of J.Af (
) AND Ben.Affleck...opening at 10 million, finish at 35 million.
August 8, 2003
Fighting Temptations...MTV Produced Bomb. Makes 20 million total. Opens at 7.
Matchstick Men-can't see a lotta money, but a 6 million opening, stays somewhat in the same position, small drop following week, and a close at 35.
S.W.A.T.-Colin Farrell is getting more and more and more popular and I see a 25 million opening and a 105 million finish.
August 15, 2003
Freddy Vs Jason-er...might be a small hit...if that makes sense. Imma go with a 15 million opening and a 50 million finish.
August 22, 2003
Last Week in Effect.
Grind-3 million opening/7 million total.
Marci X-7 million opening/40 million total
August 29, 2003
Jeepers Creepers II- Makes about 12 million first week and then add another 10, and some other stuff, and you get 40 million.
Roeper from Siskel and Roeper is predicting that The Hulk will be the big movie of the year. Since Matrix Reloaded will be rated R. Good logic there. Also good reviews for Terminator 3 are cropping up. Which will only help it's bid to be biggest summer movie. I think it will be between The Hulk and Matrix Reloaded.

There is a link on todays MSN site.
Matrix Reloaded will be the biggest "summer" blockbuster... followed closely by X2.
Bruce Almighty will flop like The Majestic.
LOTR The Return of the King will be the biggest blockbuster "of the year".

It's in...32.5 on friday for x2
Looks like a 75 million dollar weekend is within reach. You got to figure Saturday should do close to what it did Friday. And Sunday would be descent too. Maybe an 80-85 million weeknd is well within reach too. By next weekends end. Probably looking at 130-140 million. Not shabby.
