X69 laid off.....

Well.. I got laid off today... So I guess that means I'll have more time to work on the site.. Or not enough money to keep it going anymore.. Hopefully I'll find something to pay the bills...

If anyone is looking for a web application developer or a system/network admin let me know. I have 2 years php and mysql experience.. And I've been using computers for the past 15 years. Been working at computer stores and for myself doing computer work/networking for 8 years. I've also run my own dialup and wireless ISP for the past 4 years (we just break even.. never tried to get rich just pay for fast connections for ourselves)...

anyway I guess I'll start working on the site now....

It works more like cb radio than satellite, and uses a wider band to get better speeds.

When will that go nationwide? Would be a lot better than crappy sattelite where every bit of bandwith you use is measured against your limit.

it depends if there's demand in your area. if you can't get dsl or cable, then with satellite being useless, wireless is your best bet.

how populated is your area? would it be worthwhile for an isp to expand there?

well i for one would not like to see the site closed so anything i can do to help such as design help or maybe web space i have a star wars site that is not using hardly any space bout 7meg so i got like 493meg left with unlimited bandwidth sure we could figure out something......no charge obviusly just happy to help mail me if u are interested... man, sorry to hear about your layoff. the whole country is experiencing similar things. either lay offs or shrinking wages. well, like the other dude said, i don't konw where you're located but i'm sure you'd be able to find a job in no time (if you already haven't done so...) good luck man.

I was in Telecomms, raping the system as a contractor, and spent every penny as it came in, my bubble burst 18 months ago, and have since sold my house to pay off the loans & credit cards!

Like the ad says, it's time to leave the country - there are some good opportunities for ISP's (especially wireless) in other countries, I'm planning this when I get settled, it might be worth you looking further afield?

Start your own business as this website is an advert for your skills, work for your self as that is what i am looking at as i am MCSE,MCSA,MCP,CCNA with 2 years under my belt and i am getting no joy since i got canned.

wireless isp

i used to work for a dail up isp who also does wireless, I would recommecd it when u can't get dsl/cable, fiarly simple to install just put a parabolic at the customers house and shoot it towards the other one and run u some lmr 400 down to where the machine is and boom u got highspeed internet, unless you are like the company i used to work for, they limited ppl at 50k down and 12k up and are charging ppl 50.00 a month(what BS).
as u might have notice the beging line I used to wrk for, yeah like most of you that have replied to this thread i am also out of work, but that was my choice, got tired of getting f@cked out of money.
did releazie the job market was hurting so bad till i started looking for a new job. so i know where most of your are comming from. Sucks to be out of work, wasn't bad at frist i was like YEA go all this free time now, but after awhile it gets really bored with nonthing to do.
