Review: The Matrix Reloaded (2003)

yes, i had to have my say

rather than talk about characters and other stuff i'll have to check imdb to make sure i spell correctly etc, i'll just do a smallish review on how i felt about the movie.

first of all, lets be all posi. the movie was great, absolutely f'n great to be precise. for a start, if we're gonna be all actiony, the combination of wire work with cgi is better here than i've ever seen before. i'm a great fan of putting down western martial arts movies due to the poor choreography, but what can i say? the stunt team is mainly HK based im guessing (due to the names of the people involved). some of the camera work for these sequences is out of this world. when the bike swoops in and out of traffic going the other way, you truly feel the speed and the excitement. the agent smith fight we've all seen part of in the trailer is far longer than i anticipated, and still ends too early! for the entire sequence i was askin myself.. "wheres the pole, wheres the pole" and when he finally grabs it, incredible. look out for the dodgy sound affects when he knocks lots of agents over (anyone for bowling?)

right, the psycological side. i was in two minds about this initially. whilst in the cinema, i thought maybe they were going too deep with the storyline, and i wasn't sure if they'd really thought things out properly. i have a feeling im a bit stupid for thinking this, because the movies confidence makes me pretty certain now every issue will be dealt with properly when we watch the sequel in november. theres a lot of questions to be asked for sure, but as Architect says, some of the answers we'll understand, some we wont. he wasn't just talking to neo

the much criticised "rave" scene. personally whilst i feel it was slightly overlong, i didn't mind it. it showed a side to the people of zion as positive even tho they believed they might be facing distinction, and gives a chance to show the neo/trinity love sequence without making it too explicit.

a lot of people said they found the movie overly confusing. personally i think theres only one scene that doesn't make 100% real sense, but thats because its not supposed to. theres a lot of underlying themes in the movie, but its not necessary to understand them all to enjoy the movie. i think people who want an overall action only movie will be disappointed, but if you go in with that attitude, then you've not thought it thru properly. go see a vin diesel flick instead if thats all you want. personally i think adding a lot more depth to questioning what exactly is real is just what was required, and the movie works on a multitude of different levels, and you'll certainly learn new things with each watch.

november isn't that far away, but im going crazy with anticipation already. i need to see this again. i need to see the original again. i need to see more animatrix (its definitely advised to watch as many animatrix episodes as possible, as they are referenced in the movie. whilst its not essential to have seen the episodes, its always handy to know whats gone on)

i loved it. i think i loved it more than i ever hoped i would. simply brilliant, and very few movies (especially ones with budgets like this) have ever made me this happy.

16/18.

(bizarre marking scheme designed to confuse)
