Review: Yet Another One for Wrong Turn

A Few Spoilers Lie Within

What can I say that hasn't already been said? I decided to watch it during the day just in case it was a piece of shit, expecting only a gorefest and the always hot Eliza. It exceeded my expectations.

As mentioned in that other guy's review, the freaks in the movie are pretty much un-scary. They look hideous, but its nothing you haven't seen before. I guess their goal was to have the most beautiful victims imaginable vs these horrific muppets.

There's no real plot to speak of, just escaping the woods is the plot. There's no real surprises, twists, or main characters turning out to be different than what they seemed. For that, I am greatful. Without having to size things up, I found myself more into what was going on.

The suspense factor is pretty freakin high for a movie this basic (the scene where the freaks are sleeping especially).

Normally I don't get too wound up about whether the good guys survive or not, but I actually found myself rooting for Eliza and company. Except for maybe the main character Chris, that guy could go to hell and back and still have the same goddamn expression. I have to say I was a little pissed that they didn't give Jeremy Sisto a bigger part, his character was funny without being obknoxious about it, and Sisto is a great actor. A shame. As for the women, I'm sorry, I was too busy holding back wood to actually get an opinion about their characters. Eliza's was ok I guess, even if she's thrown into the timeless plot device: the freaks kill everyone in sight without hesitation, yet somehow they want Eliza to live at first, drag her all the way back to the cabin, tie her down, and start dicking around. Yeah right, makes almost as much sense as the car accident at the beginning. I must have missed the explanation as to why they couldn't put Chris' tires on Sisto's car and got the hell out.

As for the violence, fan-fucking-tastic. I didn't get grossed out or anything, but its nice and explicit, and the arrow in the guy's eye was awesome

Anyways, I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to watch a pretty much braindead yet suspenseful horror flick.

i have to agree with most of what you said..

i got baked and went to see it tonight.. and allthough its not one of the greatest films ive seen.. it did have that 70's B movie feel to it which i dig quite alot. the gore.. i mean.. its there.. but i think its more hyped up than it is.. i enjoyed the violence.. but was hoping for more after hearing all the trailers were banned...

all in all.. pretty enjoyable movie.. especially if youre stoned...

i dont think itll be as good to watch it at home.. i think its being at the theatre that makes this movie enjoyable.. so get off your cheap asses and go to the cinema to see this.. buy a bag of weed on the way

Agreed, it was a good one on the big screen. They had it waaaaay cranked, so every time something happened you almost jumped out of your seat.
