my sony is incredibly picky about media (had it about 3 / 4 years now tho) plays vcd/svcd fine, just only on Princo blue media, no xsvcd, dvdr seems fine. great player for dvd's, but i use another player for backups mainly.

wierd?!
my 5disc sony progressive scan absolutly plays all media with no glitch!
In fact it states it only plays dvd- dvdrw- or dvdrwplus.
But it works great also with dvdr plus.
Maybe just the basic model has picky media acceptance?

heh its a $500 player, so hardly the basic model

I miss my $110 Electohome DVD player. Played everything I threw at it (with the exception of DVD-RAM)

Stupid thing died on me 5 months ago. Been using some POS panasonic for some time now. Doesn't seem to like silver bottom CD-R's. Have yet to try anything bl00.

heh... Funny thing was when I went to bring my DVD player back to costco they told me that without a recipt I could only get back the amount it was last listed at before it was discontinued. Turned out to be $200... I only paid $135 in the first place.

Why am I posting this here?

my whole setup is sony however i have learned sony is behind everybody else technology wise minus there tv's i think they have the best tv's...

however i would trade my sony dvd player for jvc they are really nice i have the top of the line sony dvd player and it only fast forwards at 2x come on thats a lil ridicoulous..bought my father in law one for his bday a jvc fucker goes at 60x an has a bad ass remote. the sony does play everything but it lacks in features and i paid almost 300 for it so i feel i was ripped when the jvc i got discounted for 95 bux out the door wit a 5 year warranty.

thats another bad thing about sony every year there remotes get more an more shitty..high price for half the technology. however i love my 36 inch XBR

yeah, sony tvs kick ass.

i have a sony video, which is shite, and a sony av amp, which is lovely. i wanna get rid of the video, cos it's black and doesn't fit in with the rest of it.

MY sony wega xbr 36inch DV hd tv absolutly makes my 2 year old Mitsubish big screen look like crap! best tv I ever bought.
I just put in the new Terminator 2 DVD that is 1080dpi and on my vega it absolutly ROCKS>
I have no problems with my sony progressive scan. I dont use high speed fast forward and the bottom line is how it looks. AND that is AwesomE
!

Posted by BigShrimp on 06-13-2003 09:02 AM:

I should have been more specific i like having fast forward really high speeds because vcds dont have chapters and gettin to the certain point @2x really sucks, the quality of my dvd player as far as picture on a regular dvd is superb no complaints.

However price vs performance sony is losing they have the high price part down but they dont pack there stuff full of features they are not really leading in dvd technology they are following and that sucks because they are supposed to be "CUTTING EDGE" there tvs rock got my 36 inch xbr about 10 months ago 2100 out the door with a 5 year warranty .

I been eyeballing that 65 inch widescreen sony nice ass tv but cant justify putting my xbr in my bedroom since I have not owned it even a year yet
