CATCH ME IF YOU CAN: The musical?

Playbill magazine reports that the creators of the Tony-award winning musical HAIRSPRAY are joining forces with CATCH ME IF YOU CAN director Steven Spielberg to make a new musical based on Spielberg's 2002 DreamWorks picture. Details are just starting to emerge about the project but according to the site a deal was struck between the two sides just last week.

Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman won a Tony last night for Best Score for their first Broadway musical, an adaptation of John Waters movie HAIRSPRAY. Spielberg's movie grossed more than $160 million at the box office and received Academy Award nominations for Best Original Score and Best Supporting Actor.

It'd be interesting to see if it does actually get done. Sounds a little bizarre. I hope DiCaprio isn't in it though, because that would screw up any positive things about the play. He was okay in Catch Me If You Can, but I can't stand him in general. He screwed up Titanic and Romeo and Juliet.
