Review: Finding Nemo (2003)

I’m surprised no one else has reviewed this, so here’s my take on it:

Ever since the second installment in the Lord of the Rings trilogy has there been such a pleasing, all around great big-budget film. X2 had some faults and parts of the Matrix Reloaded just ultimately sucked. (when Neo fly's, etc…you can disagree with me) This simple tale of how parents will do almost anything for their children wins on all levels.

When Nemo (voice of Alexander Gould), a clown fish with an “underdeveloped fin,” is captured by a scuba diving dentist for display in his office, his father Marlin (the voice of Albert Brooks) searches through the entire ocean (well, until he reaches Australia) to find him. On his journey, he finds aid in Dori (the voice of Ellen DeGeneres), a fast speaking blue tang fish suffering with a short-term memory. As their search progresses, we’re taken through a series of events, such as dealing with jellyfish and a very strange, yet amusing shark. (the voice of Geoffrey Rush) I shouldn’t have to give away the ending…

Everything works in this Pixar production. The voices are phenomenally entertaining and amusing; Brooks and DeGeneres bring great fun from their relationship. The CGI is a notch better, they've outdone themselves this time, and they're use of color, movement, scale, and form all make Finding Nemo worth watching apart from the actual story and humor. Finding Nemo isn't as funny as "Monsters Inc." or "Toy Story," but it definitely has it's moments. I'd give Finding Nemo a 9.5 out of 10, or, 4 ½ stars out of 5
