FELLOWSHIP & TWO TOWERS return to theaters

New Line Cinema is planning on releasing the extended versions of THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING and THE TWO TOWERS in theaters before the December 17 release of THE RETURN OF THE KING.

The plan is to release the first of Peter Jackson's LORD OF THE RINGS films, FELLOWSHIP, on December 5. The following week after, on December 12 the extended edition of THE TWO TOWERS will come out. Then, as part of a special all-day long marathon, New Line wants theater owners to show the extended FELLOWSHIP and TOWERS films back-to-back on December 16 -- to be followed by the first showing of THE RETURN OF THE KING at 11:00 PM that day. That's well over nine hours of Tolkien movie to see in just one day!

Only thing that could beat watching the first two's extended editions along with ROTK would be watching the extended edition of ROTK, making it 10+ hours of tolkien... I'll definitely be there on December 16...

I can barely get through 3 hours at my local theater without shifting like crazy cuz my ass is killing me in their budget seats. I bet they'd probably jack up the price too on the marathon BIG TIME.

Pfft.

Still can't wait for ROTK though.

Theaters going to be packed, and a lot of people that see these movies dont shower. I shower, and I watch them. A paradox...

But anyways, I would go see it...

There's no way around it mate, I remember building up and threading the last two lord of the rings movies and they almost filled the entire platter. We'll have to swap out film reels after each movies ends, and that's going to be a bitch to say the least.

I guess I am the minority by saying I would rather sleep than watch those two boring ass movies...and I would fall asleep if I had to watch them ...

Why 20 discs? With UMS's quality, they could probably fit the whole thing on the blank side of a Bazooka Joe wrapper.

I wonder how much the theatres will be charging folks for this ...

In any case, I will be sure to miss this and instead have my own screening of the extended DVDs in one of the lecture halls on campus (just like we did with FOTR Ext. Ed. last year the night before the TT opening).

It's good to see my tuition payments going to something useful ...
