-- The Last Samurai - SCREENER - OBUS (http://www.vcdhq.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=32340)
OBUS is stomping a mudhole this holiday season.
8/8/8
Obus your doing a hell of a job keep it up. Video is pixilated and has a white haze over the image. Vhs, so dont expect to much. Audio is damn good for a vhs. movie rocked a must see.
iNDEED Its a pity about this one tho the quality is not that good, Pixelly and breaks up in sections of the sample making it quite hard to watch, But all in all gotta be doing something right getting all of these screeners
Will be nice to see what their release of Mystic.River.SCREENER-OBUS is like aswell
6.9/7/?
quality looks real good to me. 8/8/9
Damn one of my favorite movies and this screener absolutly ruined it for me. If only I could of got the sample before i burned disk 1.
These obus screeners are lookin a bit iffy to me
maybe just good ts
I take what I said back. They're having just as bad of a holiday as I am. It's the thought that counted here and they at least tired.
pixelated and widescreen, makes the watchable part pretty small, kinda dark, but it is a VHS screener VCD. Probably wouldnt seem as bad if it was fullscreen.
6.5/7/7

From the sample i think this looks pretty good, the audio is excellent and the video is about average for a vhs screener, didnt notice much pixelation, definately going to grab it because it doesnt hit the UK cinemas til January.
7/8/?
WS VHS Screener. By no means a bad copy of such, but the video does seem to be really small and gets pretty pixelated when blown up. The sound seems very excellent to me. Though I thought this movie was alright, I would suggest that if you see one film about Americans in Japan this year, make it "Lost in Translation".
I will personally hold out for a DVD source for the beautiful cinematography in this movie.

Well i downloaded disk 1&2 of this release and after seeing the quality i'm gonna bin them and stick with mpt release at the moment.I know i am gonna get slammed for this next comment but hey before you judge think of my piont of view this is a widescreen vhs screener and to be honest the quality would have been better if they did it in svcd format, which i honestly thought they would have done for this release and that of master and commander but no
As for the audio on this release yes it's very nice but as for picture sorry very pixellated and also very blocky in fast action sequences, this copy reminds me of them shitty tmd copies.
I'd say props to obus for these fast releases but thats all they are fast but bad quality"where are the true masters of screeners TCF?"
audio 9/10
Video 4/10
Shame for such a good film

i just dont see how these groups are having such problems capping from vhs. fuck, all i use is my dv cam hooked to my vcr to cap my vhs tapes to vcd, and they look 10x better than this. if i took the time to go to svcd, you would be hard pressed to see the difference between my copy, and a mid quality dvd rip. and i aint using no fancy equipment, i guarantee that.

what i don't get is why no one ever complains about the fact that none of the obus rlses are 100% vcd compliant! sound skips and jerks on my philips dvd players, and when i checked the stream encoding was indeed not standard compliant and i had to re-encode the entire movie (which taken about 2.5 hours per cd on my ghetto pc)... after i did this, these movies work perfectly!

quote:i understand that, but if they are going to play the game, they need the right tools. like i said, all im talking about is a dv cam, nothing big either. and a vcr. if they have time to watch the movie once, they have time to cap it right. i can do an hour and a half tape in about 3 1/2 to 4 hours, and thats including the time to cap to dv tape, then capture to harddrive, then to encode. its really not that hard.

hey im just asking seeing as these films are comming from vhs
wouldnt there be a chance that some are older gen copies of the film, or would they be all from master copies, some could be better than others in terms of quality to start off right ?
i dont know im just speculating maybee this could account for the
quality.
