Peter Pan (2004) - Jason Isaacs

Well, since my folks were in Belise, Mexico enjoying the warm weather this christmas, I headed to the movie theatre with some friends to catch Peter Pan.

The movie was slated as to be the film most congruent to the book, which it was. The movie was quite a faithful adaption, and was mildly enjoyable, however I couldn't help but find it lacking as a whole.

The most important thing to make the movie work was probably the visual effects. While most of it was good, there were several notable times where you could plainly tell that the actors were bluescreened or entirely replaced with their digital counterparts. A lot of the scenery of Neverland did not look real, but I was not annoyed by this since it is indeed a fairy tale.

The chemistry was mostly good between Wendy (Rachel Hurd-wood) and Peter (Jeremy Sumpter), however the two felt a little too sexually "charged" for being children. At some points I was half-expecting them to start tearing each other's clothes off in the forest. Peter Pan also tended to be portrayed as too much of a whiny arrogant brat, which detracted from the lovableness, as described in the novel.

The biggest annoyance was without a doubt Tinkerbell. The little bitch was plain fucking annoying. If anything would have absolutely ruined the movie, it was Tinkerbell. I absolutely loathed how they chose for her to talk. If you saw Cat and the Hat, then you can think of the "Things" and know what she's like.

To conclude, I enjoyed the movie, but felt that it just didn't quite meet ends, and if I had been a small child I think I would have been frightened half to death. It is a decidedly dark and sad story, and the movie did not spare on violence for the children's sake.
