The Human Stain - Hidden message

After reading someone else review from another site, it's driving me nuts too.

SPOILERS maybe:
Has anyone read the book? Is there a hidden message?
Was Kidman and Zuckerman one and the same person? Therefore making Cole a homosexual? If Kidman was the only person who knew about Cole's secret, how did Zuckerman go directly to the black woman (Cole's sister)during the funeral and asked her if she was the mother. At the end of the movie why was Cole and Kidman dancing in Zuckerman's patio, when in fact Kidman and Zuckerman did not get along, and she was never in his house. About Lester's character did Zuckerman asked him to get rid of Cole based on their conversation in the end part of the movie?
Strange.......
