(user configured) auto notification for releases?

Just thinking, what's the chances of having some user configured auto notification system to alert individuals to new releases? It could happen by popup or email etc when the user visits the site and a new release comes out.

The user would only have to select all the upcoming titles he is interested in viewing and when they come out vcdquality notifies you?
