this is nothing special...

just a reencode from the esoteric source, made with PV Author (w³.packetvideo.com) it's funny to watch it in a train or somewhere else, but not good for eyes

Posted by pinheads_hell on 01-11-2004 04:18 PM:

yes, this movie got a smal file size, for example 20 oder 40mb ( I don't know exaktly, but unter 100 mb I think) and with Irda, Bluetooth oder a Datacable you can take it on a Mobilephone, for more nfo's look @ w³.packetvideo.com

This is actually pretty interesting, I don't own one of these phones, but if people can release movies like this that actually watchable, it might be worth investing in one. Sorry, I have comment on the quality of the release, just wanted to comment. Has anyone watched this on the phone yet and has any comments?

seems a bit weird to actually release this? its not too hard to do it yourself and reencode to a low bitrate mpeg/divx for mobile viewing..

pretty cool that phones can play divx and mpeg nowadays! and its not really expensive to get one of these phones.. i got my spv e200 smartphone free on a contract with orange!

although mobile video playback is a bit of a novelty atm! only really good for showing off

Bluetooth.. hmm.. I don't have one, but can anyone confirm if it'll work on an NGage? That would give me a reason to buy one

Posted by Liife on 01-11-2004 07:50 PM:

This is pretty damn ingenius. I wish I lived in Europe, where we could actually use those nice colour screens on our phones for something OTHER than playing shitty Java games.

Sigh.

yes, I wasn't sure if it's allowed to post direkt links, sry...

@Scorch
They don't work on a Ngage Phone, but another German Group release Movies for the Ngage Cards...

I haven't got THIS release, but this crew released a lot of Movies in the 3gp format, and I've got a rip of "Austin Powers - Goldmember" on my Phone and it's watchable, but very very little

Posted by Scorch on 01-11-2004 08:24 PM:

Ah well. Still no reason to buy an NGage then

They don't make movies for Motorola phones, do they?

Posted by GermanGuy on 01-11-2004 08:31 PM:

I'm not sure, but I think the 3gp format works on Motorola Phones, because it isn't a Nokia only format!

look @ www.packetvideo.com there are some phones they work with 3gp

My jesus murphy!

Are we gonna have to make a separate section for this horrifying piece of technology? The idea is there, and theres always people trying to make cool stuff but honestly, a movie on a phone? pretty lame man. Your going to need maybe 4 batteries handy with you since cell phones suck up soo much battery power and not to mention when playing a game (but a MOVIE)!!!, this thread cannot be commented on a quality basis release since its not an official VCD. I would save my money and buy something usful, but playing movies on the celly is pathetic.... And just WRONG! were expanding to make movies more clearer and more watchable, and seems were going backwards with a 4"x4" screen with a re-encoded movie of a TS which was shit to begin with to watch a movie,.... okie well hope they stop this cause its getting ridicolous

LOL - how wrong you are. I may not have a movie on my phone, but the eminem - without me video, it was so clear, and if i had the money, i would buy extra memory and comvert tv/movies for my viewing. Why dont you actually test the hardware before you make judgements. I hate people that do that. Anyway, technology is only getting better, if my p800 can play this sort of stuff, im only drooling about what the next hardware is gonna supprt.

movies in the palm of your hand is something that PDA owners have been doing for quite a while. don't knock it till you try it.

PPC owners have PocketMVP to play DivX reencodes

Palm owners have Kinoma Video Player to play reencoded material made with Kinoma Producer.

in addition to that sprint has had a service for a few month now called MobiTV that delivers 16 live television channels on J2ME java cell phones.

during this first quarter of 2004 Tmobile is supposed to be coming out with a with a phone that has a built in TV tuner that will be able to grap over the air stations.

smartphones like the MPx200 and the i600 make it possible to have a clamshell phone that plays reencoded material through windows media player.

this is the direction phones will be going this year. the ability to both watch and record full video is going to be the hot selling point this year. it might not fit your personal lifestyle but apparently there are enough people out there that would like this ability or it wouldnt be happening.

i for one know my 1 hour ride in each direction on the commuter train goes much faster watching a movie, and the 320x240 display of my PDA seems like a big screen TV when its less than 12" from my face.

with all that in favor of stuff said now i have to agree with the objections. this is not an original release and it belongs in the shadows of usenet and IRC like the PDA rips and reencodes that have been around for some time already.

peace out,
dumwaldo

I guess if this continues we should start listing movies that are compressed to play on things like the Gameboy Advance. Seems silly to me, but might be of value to someone else. Maybe Hollywood should start to release full length previews for little tiny displays like this. Then you could see if the film was worth watching before you spend a small fortune at the theater.

2600: The Hacker Quarterly just had a great article in their latest (Winter 2003/4) ish on how to encode a dvdrip/ts/cam/tc (whatever) down to fit on a 256 MB SD card to view on your PPC with no loss in video quality. Check it out.
