Robotech II The Sentinels *SVCD* - VHSRIP - BlazeSVCD
Robotech is ok, but i've grown up with Macross (which this series is basic tack-on of various episodes).
I've loved Macross since i was a little boy, but still have a soft spot for Robotech as it's sorta part of the universe. Basically Macek took it to Harmony Gold/CPM and dubbed and ripped the fucker apart to make Robotech, a sort of bastard child of Macross. This movie is ok though if you just want quick action with little regard for anything else.
LYNN MINMAY FOREVER!!!
Oh, and this is out on DVD.

I grew up watching this stuff too.. Captain Harlock, Robotech, Voltron.. Really nice to see some of these episodes released. What bothers me though is that The Sentinals series was never released.. This was the pilot of what was supposed to be about 120 episodes if I recall correctly, FHE was going to greenlight the run and then pulled the plug at the last min.. Kind of Depressing since the paperback books and "end of the circle" put an interesting twist on the whole Robotech universe.. Ashame it will never see the light of day...
That dvd is only PAL and wasnt released in the US as NTSC, the vhsrip is ntsc and was only released in the US so that looks like the reason. Plus who wants to order that PAL dvd when our good friends can bring us an excellent quility ntsc version right at our finger tips.
Excellent looking video and sound. Good job dudes!!
peace

Well Mystic Slippers you are without a doubt...a moron. First lets address a few things:

Welps, it kinda helps being one of the biggest Macross otaku on the planet lol. So ya, on this occassion i know my stuff where anything Macross is concerned.
quote:
Robotech was indeed a mash-up of Macross. Mostly taken from Macross II, but all spliced segments of the Lovers Again movie. But also featured segments from Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada. Robotech is also known as "The Macross Saga". Which i personally deem to be an insult and refuse to accept.
quote:
Macek took it as his own and raped it for Harmony Gold. It makes little sense but at the time was marketed to a western audience, because us Westerner's were deemed incapable of enjoying anything non-western. So to shrug off it's origins, Robotech was born. Amongst other bleh reasons.
Dude, first of all, distinguish the difference between a movie and an OVA, then check your facts.
Robotech IS a mash up of Macross, Mospeada and Southern Cross and does also include select footage from Macross II.
The Macek/Harmony Gold case you state is semi-correct, but is what was implied in my post. WTF did you think i meant when i said Macek and HG raped the show? How else did they acquire the show if it wasn't licensed? Did they steal it and palm it off as their own? No. Apply common sense on that one, although i guess if i were to back down on this i would admit that i may not have actually stated this clearly in my post, although it doesn't take a genius to figure out the obvious re my point.
And i forget where i have the story now, but the show WAS re-edited for a western audience. Opinions on eastern animation back in the day were very much different to what they are now. Personally i just see Robotech as a bastard child of Macross and although reasonably enjoyable, makes no sense whatsoever.
And yes, it is out on DVD. As i've already said.
On a different note, i'm upon the assumption you are a Macross fan such as myself, on that note i'd be interested to read your opinions on Macross Plus, Macross 0 and Macross 7. I've not seen much of 0 yet as i only have unsubbed episodes so they just look pretty but remain incomprehensible.
Which shows and/or characters do you like?
haha take your conversation to the anime boards or somthing, no one cares whos knows the most about some old show! Stick to the release
peace

Well explain to me which part is from Macross II since the animation wasn't even produced until long after robotech was released.
Macross Plus is a classic.
Macross 7 is dreadfully cheesy, but watchable if you can get past all the overdone crappy musical bits
Macross Zero so far seems very good but not quite sure how they are gonna wrap it up in 2 more eps.
Yeah well the release why even put out a VHS Rip when you could rip the DVD
NTSC DVD available
Not sure why they are bothering with a VHS rip since it was availbe in North America on DVD. It is disc E3 as part of the Robotech Collection Legacy 3 box. (I have it sitting in my collection for sentimental reasons.)
Macross II: Lovers Again was released late 1991 and continued through 1992 and was released directly to home video in Japan. There was six episodes which was turned into a movie for theatrical release. It is generally not considered canon since Shoji Kawamori and Studio Nue had very little to do with it. Since Robotech was released in 1985 in the US, Macross II could not be used as source material for Robotech.
Besides bad voice acting and the fake episode in Southern Cross (well, I guess Southern Cross as a whole), the basic premises of the three series are intact. In fact, the only real attrocity is Robotech the Movie (which needs a release!). It is a mangled version of Megazone 2-3 with scenes of Southern Cross added in as well as new animation added at the end to give it a happy ending. Boy, I need to see this movie, again! Any group want to try and tackle this one?
