Excellent release, looked and played great.

I thought for sure porco556 would comment on this movie, but I guess blockbuster hits is his only dish. So I'll state my comments as having both PAL and NTSC releases.

PAL was foreign menu's from some language I wasn't familiar with but played good but only with DTS audio (which is lame).

NTSC (this one) was much better, menu was in english and only 5.1 audio.

Both roughly the same as far as video quality, but the NTSC is more compatable with world wide standard dvd players and took up the whole DVD5 with just the movie.

Quick additional note: I liked your PAL/NTSC compare BTW! Really good to know since I almost DID get the PAL by accident. But after reading my review, DTS would be REALLY good right about now!

I did get this, but I've been so back logged with other movies that I didn't have a chance. Until now

Video was untouched, 1.85:1 looked nice enough. This really is a one time watcher for me though. Val Kilmer and LL in the same movie But I can't say I didn't like it, it was a pretty decent movie.

My beef with this was actually the sound. It sounded like a 64kbit/sec MP3 or something. Looking at the sound after watching the movie, I did notice it was a 384kbit/sec instead of the usual 448kbit/sec, but I never imagined it would have been that big of a difference (especially when that bitrate is spread over the 6 channels). I turned the volume down when my teeth started to grind because the sound was so bad (especially when the chopper was flying them to the island near the beginning [approximately the time I started noticing the sound]).

Video 10/10 - Can't get better than untouched...

Audio 7/10 - I never rate audio, but since I talked about it, I guess I should. The sound is a 1:1 copy from the retail I'm sure, but it wasn't the best audio I ever heard. Unless BHP ran the sound through some filters and re-sampled it to hell, the sound ain't getting better.

DVD-R 10/10 - A perfect release none-the-less. No extras (not like there were any on the retail) and untouched video.

definetly not flawless movie goes out of sync by 2 seconds for 10 minutes in the middle. someone please proper! as this is a good movie.

One of my DVD players is a RCA model. (Very cheap I may add). And I notice that when you pause a movie somewhere it will go out of sync then come back in sync, especially on high bitrated movies, originals, and even some svcds. This DVDR I watched all the way through on my SONY and it plays perfect. My suggestion is to spend the extra $$$ on a DVD player with a stronger laser.

My .02

I have a sony dvd player. Two in fact try hitting menu while watching movie and tell me what happens. Absolutely nothing. So flawless I don't think so. Retail would have gone back to menu when you hit menu. Quality good non the less but menu looks home made.

I watched this twice. Once with PowerDVD and once with my Pioneer stand-alone... Not a glitch either time. So I guess I can't say I've seen any problems with this release myself. But of course I am not going to whip out my old DVD player I once bought at Walmart 5 years ago to see if crappy players will screw up somewhere.

Spend the whole $125-150 and get a decent player (players I have had owned and zero problems with are Pioneer, Sony, Harmon Kardon (even though the HK is a good player, it's a waste of money!)).

Brands that I did have troubles with (or friends that had troubles) are:

Apex, Panasonic (picky ass player), RCA and pretty much any early model of any major brand (1997-2000 are the early models).

Make sure they advertise they can PLAY DVD-R and DVD+R too!! 99% of new players do say it.

The ulimate DVD player is your computer with a DVI output on your vid card running PowerDVD. Not to mention perfect color control also. Only problem is it's a pain to setup the sound and lots of TVs don't have DVI inputs. But blows ANY standalone out of the water.

On my sony there are 2 menu buttons on the remote (both located on the very bottom). I just tried. Menu (which should be used for audio or subtitle menus) does nothing, but 'TOP MENU' takes you back to the main menu.

Homemade Menus? Nahh... Beta or unfinished, maybe.. It's definatly looks incomplete in someway... But the movie is what counts

That's messed up... My works fine... I must have the super mind reading neuro-DVD player Maybe a re-authored menu is the culprit?

LoL, no... hehe

Just SONY DVD Players have multi buttons for different MENUs. This DVD worked ok in my Pioneer (I own 5 DVD Players, one for each room) with just the simple MENU button. Other guy must not have known about SONY's menu button tatics, hence, mutli menus/multi buttons.

Its probably some sort of asian silver or a mislabeled dvdscreener, would explain the homemade menu and sound inconsistency. Pretty odd release to have an "R1" DVD before its American theatrical date.
