I don't have this release as I am currently out of town, HOWEVER, just because a release doesn't have subs doesn't mean it's a fake. Could be that Alliance simply doesn't know how to rip subs, or they are out of sync and not sure how to fix that. Or of course, maybe the subs are just not there.

The retail is hitting the stores in early July, it's not unrealistic time release either. Plus the director's commentary is a good indication it's a R1 also.

I hope this is a good rip cuz I've been waiting a long time for this movie. Hopefully not a TPMEG 3.0 Express encode

ACTUALLY, re-read the NFO just now. It would be nice to know something about the encode or if it is untouched video.

Looking at the dvdr its definataly interleaved with inifinifilm with directors cut version. Subtrack is there but no subs. I assumed they were probably out of sync due to the 2 versions of the film being together in one vobset, so they wiped it.

Definatly untouched video and menu.

Disc is wiped of everything and jumps straight to the menu.

Works good, I'm gonna purchace when its available for the extras.

2nd best movie this year next to Dawn Of The Dead (just my opinion)...

Bah...been hearing nukes for this, but the nfo states they stripped 'em and i'm gonna have to believe that..great movie, great quality, great sound

call me crazy but.. 10/10/10 - i loved the movie

I heard Theatrical Version has a total different Ending than DC... so it's not just more scenes but different scenes. Pity it's ripped.

P.S.: Original had subs

Agreed. Awesome movie, and works fine. Nice release, although, since this is directors cut, i'm curious how the theater version ends...supposely different ending, and shorter. Props for this, been waiting for it

yep this dc does have a different ending from the theatre version. also this does look like to me the real retail version of the movie. i guess i have to buy this to get both version of the movie on july 6

Correct, retail has theatrical and director's cut. this release they cut out the theatrical (when you press play there's an option to choose which you want to play, can only pick director's cut).

Director's cut has a totally different ending which is very over the top and not as great imho.

It's a shame. I'd figured the movie would branch off to the new scenes??? e.g. Terminator 2 style. or is it actually two complete versions of the movie on the same disc (sounds unlikely). too bad, hope someones releases a better rip.

Since ALLiANCE has retail...I say they just rip the theater version too. That would clear everything up

It's technically possible to rip both version on one disc if it is seamless branching, also using CCE as an encoder. I usually don't care about it when the DC version just has additional scenes but in this care it has different scenes and a total different ending.

Looks to me like you speak English what u complaining about.. Of course its retail... Menu maybe altered but Dir cut and Audio commentary are all that would fit without a loss in quality..

You may want to double check your copy because it is most definatly wide screen

Been having problems with my apex lately i dunno but anyways this release is pretty good but it got stripped of everything basically the menu is untouched but all the extras are rapped. like stated about no subs at all but they do have the DC audio which is kind of cool. It sucks that it doesn't have the other ending of the movie but oh well.

As for the ratings

10/10/8

Pretty damn good movie

well thats bad isnt it, I didnt like the fact the option for Directors Cut or Theaterical comes up why didnt they remove that?????

Otherwise very good, but thats really annoying me now I feel as though ive missed something important.

Why couldnt they keep both???
is it cuz retail has got both full versions of each movies on it???

its must be like full DVD-9 !!!

If the retail was done correctly, the two different versions are in the same VOB files, except there are two different VOBID paths (or you can also do it by angles). Alot of movies do this, especially recently with the rush of "unrated" versions (American Wedding was a good example).

It would have been really simple to rip both. All they needed to do is completely extract the VOBs untouched. Which then makes me think the video actually is re-encoded and that's why only one version of the movie is there due to lack of knowledge (encode and then re-create the VOBIDs exactly so the menu picks up on it is not the easiest thing).

I am just going to buy this one since it is a good movie (despite Ahston's presence in it)

ADDED NOTE: After looking at the VOBs, the possibility is also that there just wasn't enough space for both versions and the HUGE ass menu. The disc is pretty packed. But there is also no evidence of untouched video also, but the video does look pretty good.

Posted by videoFreak on 06-14-2004 11:25 PM:

I had to register just to let you guys know....

if you look at the menu screens in menuedit you will notice that the screen you would see after the directors/theatrical version screen if you selected theatrical (which you can't get to because the button was diabled) flashes a screen that says turn over the disc for theatrical version... this implies that it was a DVD9 flipper with directors on one side and theatrical on the other.

Which makes me says why did thestudio author like this and not just make it seamless branched like every other DVD that does this.
