japan releasing divx hard ware player?

according to one of my buddies he has been
imformed that there are plans to release a divx compatable
hardware player that wil play divx films .instead of
having to rely on so so software based players any one
able to confirm this

Are you sure he dident mean divx (not divx ;-) ) ?? If you dont know what "divx " is, it was a system that was going to change the way we rent videos.

Both sony and philips have chips that can play divx ;-) but wont release them because they are scared the will get sued.

due to the high processing power required to uncompress divx, and the fact the codec is a hack, and very volatile (3 version releases in about a year) means i doubt this is true.

besides, i dont think the azn's are that interested in divx, its a western thing.

i have watched a load of divx films i heard off a mate i just wondered if anyone else had heard same . divx in reference to one dvd quality film compressed on to one "cd" as oppossed to one" dvd"

fair comment all round

but a lot of divx around shows the format
has its followers but being limited to pc machines
limits its potental.i

I've seen them on a site, basically a modded comp with media player and tv out.
