Posted by vip3r on 07-28-2004 12:03 AM:

Not for awhile .. it's just gonna hit theaters (as a limited release here soon). Glad that this one finally came out, although i already own the foreign dvd.

Woot, been waiting for a dvdr of this. grabbed an old crappy dvd/sub of this awhile ago, great movie.
Seen a preview of this not long ago in US theaters, release date was *edit august (2004).

will edit when i get>
9/8/8
*yes the face logo pops up quite often, and the audio quality isnt perfect.
also no subs at the begining/intro or at the end. <same with the imbt release, which i prefer over this one, even tho its svcd.

DC isn't supposed to be an awful lot better than the standard cut. its a mainland china release, which is never of the standards of outside the area.

This was a great movie I like it alot. The fact that it had 3 versions of a story being told was one of it's best features.

Well I didn't pick this one up, but I got an ogg/ogm off a torrent a long time ago and I just recently converted it to an avi and embedded the subs. It was a bitch but worth it! (I got to watch it on my dvd player which doesn't support ogg/ogm)

Anyway

well i think im gonna get this one:

Hero.2002.Complete.DTS.PAL.DVDR-FoA

seeing as it has 5.1 unlike the hkm release that only has DTS.

There are rumours floating around that this is actually some kind of elaborate bootleg version.

I have not seen it myself yet, but I've read these things about it:

* The running time is 108 mins, but it claims to be 118 on the box
* The audio quality is rather poor
* There is a watermark with the letters "Face" showing on the screen throughout (not always) the movie

Can anyone confirm this?

Posted by deagle on 07-29-2004 07:01 AM:

"This edition of the film is the director's cut version which offers a running time of 108 minutes, approximately 10 minutes more than the original version."

That is what yesasia said on their page for this edition. As far as I know, this only release in china at this moment, and this is indeed a different version from the 2003 release of hero which is only 98min long.

Posted by pHo on 07-29-2004 07:10 AM:

its a bit of a shady release, and the watermark appears when you have subtitles on. i can't confirm this myself, but i've heard this from a fair number of sources (from the actual disc, not the hkm rip)

personally, i'm more than happy with the standard cut, but its nice to know there's a longer cut out if required. in the theater, this film should look awesome. its absolutely epic, the scale is just thru the roof, and the use of colour is glorious. jet li FINALLY back to form (before going back to USA to churn out more shit.)

now if only woo would return home to make a good movie, that'd be nice.

That stupid "FACE" thing is annoying. It pops up like every 5 minutes. In case anyone was interested, here is an interisting page about the many different releases of HERO. Obviously lots of work was involved:
207.136.67.23/film/DVDCompare3/hero.htm

Posted by pHo on 08-29-2004 02:29 PM:

yeah its a really handy site, along with dvdcompare.net, if you're an avid importer like me

i have a dvdr of the original guang dong face release, which i'll probably replace with a legitimate elite group disc at some point.

what scenes are different? i'll stick with the 98min vers unless the extra 10 mins are just stellar

:: current DC is supposed to be bunk, i'd stink to the < 100mins too. pHo

No sound on DVD Player

Hi

Have a copy of this plays fine in Windows Media Player 10, however when I play on my Pioneer DVd Player there is no sound with the main film.

Anyone help!

Cheerz

Posted by pHo on 10-08-2004 07:10 PM:

its probably trying to output in dts, which cannot be downconverted. if there's a 2.0 soundtrack, switch to that.
