Making a DVD from lots of avi files?

Dear Group,

I've got 12 avi files representing 12 episodes from a TV series. Is there a way to burn them to a DVD, in chronological order, and then watch them on my tv?

Yes there is...you'd need to re-encode the files to DVD-compliant mpeg2 files and then author these using some DVD Authoring software.

For the re-encoding the easiest option would be to use Canopus Procoder 2.0 which is very easy to use

For the authoring use something like DVDLab.

i'd recommend using DVD2SVCD (thats just the name of the file) and set it to AVI to DVD (AVI2DVD) and use encoder of choice to convert video. CCE SP 2.5 is my fave. TMPGEnc and cannopus are also other choices.

Tmpgenc and Tmpgenc dvd author will do it

since u are new to the game, i would recommend u stick with tmpgenc products just because they are so easy to use and work really well. get tmpgenc 3.0 xpress (this, next to notepad, is the easiest program on earth to use )

avi files are highly compressed.

the mpeg2 files on a dvd are lightly compressed.

expect problems making a highly compressed file into a lightly compressed file. the conversion process is working in the wrong direction.

think about it this way. someone gets a beach towel and decides they want a bath towel so they cut the beach towel down in size. then one day they give you the bath sized towel but you wanted a beach towel. so you stretch the bath towel to be the size of a beach towel. now your towel is thinner and less absorbant so while it might look like a beach towel it does not perform like one.

in short you can not upsample a file. if you want a DVD then download the DVD image, not an AVI.

go out and buy a philips model 642 dvd,divx player they only cost about 70 bucks and with the firmware upgrade (free from philips)
you can play any thing just about. burn your avi's to dvd and stick them in and play. burn avi files as data

I would use Nero.

Dload or buy it, use StartSmart go to Create DVD, and you can just add the video files and then it will transcode them and burn them.

Simple as that!
