-- issue im having with winrar (http://www.vcdhq.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=48103)

Posted by Miller on 10-29-2004 10:14 PM:

issue im having with winrar

ok this is a odd one, really really odd

ok i'll download a movie or game release, and i'll go to unpack for the bin files, and i will get a curruption error on 1 rar file, so i'll check the files in the SFV and ya they come out bad. but then i'll log back into the site, and run the sfv on their and the files come out fine, odd!!!

so i delete them off my pc and redownload them, and get the same issue, so at that point i delete them and download them from a incomplete channel and still get that error on the unpack, the only way i get around it is to just set winrar " to keep broken files"

the reason that this is pissing me off is it just happed with a game and well the bin i burnt crashes on when installing ( probley on the bad section) and well its just a pain in the ass

so what i have done about this, removed and reinstall win rar ,
updated winrar, saved them to a diffrent slave drive, but it still happens

some one help please

Well there's no point in trying a different version of "unrar", since your SFV check is confirming that the files have not been downloaded correctly. So it's probably something to do with your FTP client.

ok so its still fucking up on me

i have replaced flashfxp with a new install but it still happens

so i had some one else download the files and run the sfv on their pc, theirs came out fine, so i had them send it to me, and when i get it they come out currpt again

its happening with the game men.of.valor-MONEY

on rar 10 of cd3
and rar 4 of cd 4

so now im lost

some one must have had this issue b4, it only happens wiht game rips to me, but keeping broken files gives me usless bins that fail when running the install

have you tried creating an sfv for the files, and checking them again? comparing the new sfv with the old one?

Does this happen often?

Could indicate a fucked hard drive/memory.

Have you run memtest or prime95 or anything to check your pc's ok?

Sisoft Sandra should give the PC a pretty thorough test.

PC benchtest

AIDA32 is also pretty good I find

google it - official website is closed but freeware so can be found around

also doesnt require an install to use - just runs from the .exe

I don't think Sandra tests if your memory is bad or not. It sure never knew that I had over 30,000 errors on one of my sticks... memtest86 did though. All sorts of problems I was having disappeared after getting new ram.

zero byte your page file and then reboot.

Recreate the pagefile at whatever size you want.

Sounds like corruption is from bad caching.

its still happening

im on a new PC now, same internet connection, and still getting CRC errors on extracting the bin images. its all new software, and well i tried to download once again the game Men.Of.Valor-Money
and well i had a few corrupt rars, i reconnected to the site and the SFV on the site said their fine, so i has some one replace the files just too see, and i redownloaded them, they still came out bad, so some one else downloaded the release off the same site, and it came out great, i had them send it to me and well, it was bad ... so some one suggested that its a packet clogging issue on my ISP's side and well im still waiting for their research department to do somthing. the only 2 things that are in this pc that were in the other is 1 of the HDD, and the video card, but i save to the new HDD and they still come out bad

this have effectivly shut me down, thats the reason no one has been reading my dumb comments in the release section

fuck some one must have a idea on this one!!!!

You are saving to the new HDD.. but is your browser's temporary folder also on the new HDD? If it's an issue with your old hard drive and your temp folder is located on the old one, then the files could still come out corrupted even if the final save location is the new drive.

Ive been having similar problems with movies. I keep getting errors when unpacking them, but they work fine just watching them fully packed with the VLC player; although the begining is always chopped off and shows up somewhere in the middle.
