dvd players and mpegs or divx?

Are there any dvd players out there that can play mpegs or avis burnt off onto a blank cd?

There are several apex's and a couple of daewoo's that will play raw mpegs. However there are no machines that will play AVI files at this time. Except a hacked X-box.

how can the PS2 play DIVx, iv'e never heard of that, plz tell me how/or what to get to play this

I wish there was a DVD + DivX player.

I have like 100 divx movies and I just now found out about VCDs and now I get to convert them all!

2 hours per movie + burning time = 250 hours of work to get all my movies to VCD format

Dreamcast...

I heard that the infamous Sega Dreamcast can play divx. There are divx bootdisks somewhere on the web and they will show. However, people have reported that the movies often skip and jump. Since I don't own a Dreamcast I am not sure of the validity. Well, keep looking and good luck with your 250hr quest.

I have a Dreamcast and I have both the VCD player and DivX player for Dreamcast.

They suck. The quality is horrible, the audio is out of sync on ALL my VCDs, and its just a horrible experience to try and watch a movie.

That is how I found my way into the DVD/VCD realm, via my Dreamcast's VCD (lack of) quality. I wondered why the ther were so popular when the they all looked like shit, but now I realize its just my dreamcast that was causing the problems.

Basically it looks like watching a VCD on a 21" computer monitor (very blocky).

There are visual errors every couple frames, too.

get urself a svcd player and stop converting!

One time, my cousin Walter got this cat stuck in his ass. True story. He bought it at our local mall so the whole fiasco wound up on the news, it was embarrassing for my relatives and all, but the next week he did it again, different cat, same results, complete with another trip to the emergency room! ive got a dreamcast, and never been inspired to try either the vcd or divx player. why? cos its gonna suck. i dont need to burn a cd off to tell me that.

as for a divx standalone... dont hold your breath. the whole divx scene is based around piracy, the codec is a hack and it changes far to often. bundled with the fact it requires a lot more processing power, and u've basically got a pc under a tv. its just not commercially viable.

and my dansai plays raw mpeg.. but yew. pointless. just image it properly, and do that. i dont see much need in the ability to play back raw, unless ur mixing svcd and vcd mpegs, then its kinda handy. but on mine u can't even fast forward/rewind on raw playback, so sod that.
