how do i convert NTSC to PAL ?

Hi
i use tmpeg to encode my movies but i like to watch them on my playstation upstairs sometimes..but i can only watch them in black and white as a lot of them are NTSC.

I have tryed converting them using dvd movie factory but that takes ages and ages, i tryed using dvd santa as that convertes them as you encode but i find im having a lot of sync problems with it.

does anyone know of a program that will convert ntsc to pal after i have encoded ?

Converting NTSC to PAL is an encoding process and as far as I'm concerned is not worth the effort.

Sim111 [or something like that] was obsessed with this and has made a couple of threads about it...you can read those if you have 30 minutes of your life to waste.

I use DVD2SVCD, and in that its just a case of checking a box that says "Convert NTSC to PAL" works a treat.

I just replied to a thread similar to this - Which can be located HERE.

go buy a $30 DVD player...use for 1 year, toss it...repeat

ive spent endless hours and countless programs looking for the answer to that and i found canopus procoder to be the best...you are still looking at at least 4-7 hours of conversion though....there is no way around that...if you do find a faster way please repost

I actually ran into this type of problem with an xvid of Van Helsing, but I need NTSC (Van Helsing was PAL). Plus it had AC3 audio, which I wanted to keep. Tried a number of things to get it to work, but ran into different problems like no video, audio out of synch, etc., so I ended up encoding it with Tmpgenc, in PAL DVD format, and then authored it using Tmpgenc DVD Author. Finally, I used a program called IFOEdit to change the .ifo file lines from PAL to NTSC. Found the tutorial for trying this here: http://www.videohelp.com/forum/view...fe49538461f6ba9

Now this won't work for a lot of players, nor do I know if it will work on a PS2, but it worked great on my standalone dvd player.

But from now on, I'm sticking with NTSC rips.

EDIT:

Went out and bought a JVC for $49, has progress scan, plays everything but divx/xvid and does PAL to NTSC on the fly. Going to exchange it later with my other Samsung player and put that one in the bedroom instead.

I have used TMPEnc 3.0 XPress a couple times now, worked like a charm! 2 or 3 clicks, sit back and 45 min or so later ........ BAM ..... NTSC mpeg from my PAL mpeg.

It was MainConcept that took 45 min, TMPEnc was 3-4hrs and even then had sync issues. MainConcept, no problem.
