Thank you BHP for knowing how to encode, and know how to fix your "f-ups" when there are some. R1 retail is nice, much better quality than the R3, even though I could only watch it with PowerDVD ...

keep 'em coming

/end rant

Yeah Great Job quailty is nice . May one day we see a end to R3 DVDR releases and the groups that do them waste of time. Anyway problem with this release is it will have a hard time getting spread since most nukers have no idea what there doing and will keep a homemade DVD over Retail :P

What are your two on about?

I can see no major difference between the two releases, and do away with R3 releases, thats just as bad as the comment the other day about nuking all DVD-Screeners, might as well take all Cams, TS's TC's Screeners as well.

R3 might not be as good quality as most R1/R2 releases, but if its weeks before the others then bring them on.

I dunno. I watched this and I wasn't blown away at all by the video. In fact, I kind of like the R3 video (in this case) more. Same with I, Robot, I can't see how the video is going to actually further improve over the R3 release(unless perhaps I get the retail R1 original DVD-9).

IMO, I think the companies are saving cash by only doing 1 transfer on major releases. And R3 and R1 ultimately end up with pretty much the same video with different audio and subs.

So if all R3s are going to look as good as I, Robot and Spidey 2, bring em on!

Video 8/10 - It was OK. I will probably wait 4 retails till it hits SuperBit and buy that. Video was pretty good though. As mentioned, I liked the R3 more.

DVD-R 8.5/10 - Ehh. Having Tobey Maguire as Spiderman is a blooper enough for me personally. I could have done without the bloopers personally. Very nice job though.

I agree with you, porco (rossi?). I thought the R3 version had better video too. maybe BHP re-encoded it at a loss over the R3 version.

maybe if you two read the nfo youd know it was downsampled since they said it nice and clearly

Of course we know it was downsampled... But the R3 release was untouched video. So the whole dilemna was that maybe the R3 and R1 was the same transfer and the only reason the R1 didn't turn out as good as the R3 (IMO) is that the R1 was downsampled.

Similar colors, picture. The R3 just seemed better.

I guess the only way to find out is wait to see if the VOBs on the retail DVD-9 will fit on a DVD-R without transcoding.

From NFO:
"The reason the R3 was able to keep untouched video was to blank out the VIDEO_TS.VOB, which is a no-no. Thats why it wont play (even with the patches) 100% on all players.
So we had to render this, and as a bonus we kept the bloopers, Enjoy!"

Looks like you can keep untouched video and audio only on a DVD5 if you remove the VIDEO_TS.VOB

But the main question is, can you get untouched video on the R1? The VIDEO_TS.VOB in the R1 was only 10megs, maybe in R3 it was 400megs (which I've seen before). But IF the theory of R3 and R1 having the same transfer, then R3 untouched with no menu will be as good/equal to R1 untouched with no menu.

Hehe, dunno why I am wasting this much energy on this release when I'm just going to buy it anyways

As for me, I'd rather do a movie only without menu and keep the video to untouched.

Well then, you are one of the few people that would do that .. heh, it won't happen with scene releases, EVER.

Anyways, good quality release, movie is fucking great. And i agree with bcool2k, better late than never. Props on this release and the extras discs guys.

its funny to hear bitching about r3 . r3 includes korea. some of the korean transfers and discsets are FAR better than their r1 counterparts, and often cheaper.

now HK discs on the other hand...

with the exception of the liquid sky DVD-R (but the disc was scratched and the menu had to be ripped. just more a reason for me to blow $100 on that DVD)

as for this RLS....it looks tight. Watching it on the TV is perfect for me.
