Spot on from ctp again. Liked the movie, but expected more. It just didn't live up to the hype.

NO such thing as 10 and a 5 for this movie is being very generous. One of the worst movies and ending payoffs i ever sat through..From the sample.

Well I'm one of the people that seems to be in the minority here. I thought the movie was pure genius. I've seen this in the theater 3 times now, and this release once. Seemed flawless on my end. I have a hard time handing out 10's, but I see nothing wrong with this release at this point.

DVD Structure is bad, several files just deleted and not dummied, just menu edited off the menu. Jump2menu was added so first play is menu.

so I give a 3/10 for authoring, looks like childs play work.

10/10 video and audio untouched.

BTW: This is a French DVD, starts out 'LE VILLAGE'

Only problems I see is if you recopy your burnt copy, will give you errors for being non-compliant dvd.

Is this movie worse than Unbreakable?? I know M. Night sure started off with his best (Sixth Sense), but is he really sliding that bad.

And ya... What's up with the "Le Village" before the movie starts playing (after you press play on the menu)...

I am going to guess they might have screwed up the rip of the movie and kept a piece of the French VOBs er something. Happened to me also before (accidentally kept the French credits of Shanghai Noon instead of the English).

If it was French (as in France), it would have been PAL. Most likely French as in Canada, which still is R1.

Video looked eh... But they say untouched, so I guess it's as good as we'll get until either a "special edition" or HD-DVD comes out.

Glad someone else commented on that. Whole release is indeed in english but yeah when i saw LE Village i almost freaked. Woops CTP. Oh well i only got it for a friend. This movie was terrible.

8/9/3 After realizing that it was indeed a French source dvdr.HEHE

Umm... Most R1 DVDs are both French and English. This is no exception. If it was a French DVD, then it would only have the French track, with a French menu. Not just a still picture of "Le Village" for 2 seconds. Dunno where the "French DVD" conspiracy is coming from. Not defending CTP, but there ain't much wrong with this release (aside from the poor ass authoring).

This was purely an authoring problem IMO. No reason to think this is NOT the R1 US/Canada release. I killed off the "Le Village" easy before burning.

Watched this on my standalone with no problem. Movie was OK.

so you thoguht the video was fine before, but once you found out it was french you changed your mind eh

i bet some group will end up doing a proper/internal , most likely with extras, and sub-par video quality

9/10/? the release is fine, i dont care if the credits are french..

1. no, I'm not the author of this
2. dont msg me to bitch/ask question/thank me

fyi:

The.Village.DVDR.Centropy.Manual.Menu.Fix-iND

Rather than risking a partially-working ppf patch to fix Centropy's bad menu reauthoring,
it was decided that a more precise and 100% solution should be given.
Its been 48hrs since the rls pred, and nobody has done a patch yet, so here you go

First of all thanks again to Centropy for this nice Pre release

The.Village.DVDR-Centropy
but the problem is pretty much same as with Bourne Supremacy.

the dvd starts halfway in the menu

So...if you dont want to download the release again if some group decides to do
a .Proper. , just read this nfo carefully and
fix it yourself with the awesome program pgcedit.

problem 1. when you play the dvd it start halfway in the menu.

problem 2. the dvd still believes that all the VTS files are still on the dvd.
on some dvd players this might result in a problem with playback.

problem 3. some vob files are missing in the orginal structure which can also cause
playback problems.

alright how to fix the problems.

you need these freeware tools.

PGCEDIT V 0.44
http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgce...inexe_0.4.4.zip
or just google for it)

DVDDECRYPTER
http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=53

DAEMON ( for mounting the orginal image of Centropy )
http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Daemon_Tools

first mount the image of the centropdy release with either daemon tools or with alcohol.

then create a directory on the harddisk called c:/The.Village.Proper/
then inside c:/The.Village.Proper/ create 2 more directories called VIDEO_TS and
AUDIO_TS.

so now it looks like this

c:/The.Village.Proper/VIDEO_TS
/AUDIO_TS

then start up the latest dvddecrypter.

choose at source the Mounted DVD drive which contains the orginal image from Centropy.

then click on MODE and chose FILE F mode.

now choose destination and make sure you chose c:/The.Village.Proper/VIDEO_TS

after that press the big button below it ( dvd -> hd button )

after about 10 minutes depending on your hd speed all files are copied and you can quit
dvddecrypter.

next what you have to do is get into the directory c:/The.Village.Proper/VIDEO_TS
and do some observation.

if you look well you see that 2 files are missing.namely VTS_03_01.VOB and VTS_04_01.VOB
they have been probably deleted with a tool called vobblanker.
the problem is we need these 2 files to make good working image,
because if you like to create an image with imgtools you will see it wont work.

so what we will do is a very easy trick

just copy the file VTS_02_1.VOB to a temp directory. can be any directory you want.

and rename the file VTS_02_1.VOB into VTS_03_1.VOB

now copy the file VTS_03_1.VOB back to c:/The.Village.Proper/VIDEO_TS

repeat those steps as well to create VTS_04_1.VOB and make sure you copy
VTS_04_1.VOb to c:/The.Village.Proper/VIDEO_TS

---------------------------------------------------------------

now we have a nice structure for this dvd on hd, but we are not there yet, the real fun
is just starting to begin.

---------------------------------------------------------------

make sure you download the free program called PGCEDIt v 0.44

load the program and press the button File and choose open dvd.

then choose the directory c:/The.Village.Proper/VIDEO_TS

when you first load in the dvd it will give a warning message that timetable is corrupt
and wont work with programs like Ifoedit. just read the message and press ok.

alright what we are gonna do now is fix the dvd so that it will start at the beginning
of the menu instead halfway in the menu.

so how to fix it? well it is actually very easy. it just requires 1 change in the code.

just search for this line

VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 1 (2:11) 10b. RootM

click on that line once with your left mouse button.

when you done that you see on the rightside

PRE commands

search for this line

5 if ( gprm (4) == 0 ) then ( LinkPGN Program 3 )

and double click on it.

a new window pops up.

now change the number 3 into number 1 at

Jump to Program (1-99) in the current PGC.

once you have done that press ok.

then press file and click on Save DVD

you will get 1 more message saying to fix the VTS yes or no. and just click on yes!

---------------------------------------

all should be fine now. open any dvdplay app like Powerdvd or WIndvd and check it.

if you did it right. your dvd will now start at the beginning.

you can use now IMGTOOLS or any other imaging tool program to create an image and then
burn it on dvd

Peace out

Mr. Proper

Getting rid of "LE VILLAGE" screen

Thanks Mr. Proper. There's a bit more that can be done too.

To get rid of the LE VILLAGE screen before the movies starts, in pgcedit go to:

VTSM 2, LU 1(en) and move (JumpSS) Jump to VMGM PGC7 from the post command area to the pre command area (Control X to cut then Control + Shift + V to paste).

If you click on the "eyeball" icon (the last one on the right) you will see the "LE VILLAGE" screen displayed. By changing the jump from a post command to a pre command the jump will be executed before the "LE VILLAGE" screen has a chance to show (do ya geddit ?!) For more information on this read 2COOL's tips on doom9.

Set the DVD Text name to The Village (click on the icon left of the globe icon, also the last but one from the bottom of the Utilities menu). You may find that your DVD player will display the movie name either on its LED display or on screen in a menu somewhere.

The best program to use to create the image is IMGTool Classic (currently at version 0.91.4) and burn using DVD Decrypter.
