Wink Thoughts on Newsgroups (from a noob)~

Ni hao ma guys~!

Just passing on a few simple thoughts on Newsgroups--from a newbie perspective~

Thanks, must go out too dumwaldo:
http://forum.vcdq.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2093
...too bad I did not read it before committing to going it alone--on Newsgroups~!

Newsgroups are the FASTEST way to download 1+gigs of movies and apps, in less than 1hour!!! (far better than Bittorrent~)--but can be a real PAIN to find someone willing to properly guide you through configuration/understanding--of this powerful, ground-breaking P2P monster~!

Newbies:

After reading dumwaldo's Thread (do not try to understand Slyck tutorial--unless you have a degree in Technology~)--gather $15 dollars and grab yourself some "paid" servers, because 4/5 servers are going to give you faster speeds than your ISP's (2) servers! (avoid Newshosting.com--they do not care about newbies~! )

Then, you will need a place to find the movies/apps/games (Suprnova.org style~)--this is where "Index" services are necessary (for those of us coming from BT/Emule/Kazaa world!~)---they list the files, instead of having you read tons of messages!

Unfortunately, I chose Newzbin.com (before reading article) because they offered a better way to "pay" (50 cents a week) for their service (you can "buy" them a gift, instead of paying them via Credit Card)---but their "editors" (moderators) constantly Repost the same things--over and over--and they are really slowwww...in getting newly-released stuff~!!

Last, dowload a "Bittorrent" copy of Newsbin pro (use this FIRST--unless you want problems!)---and enjoy the SPEED of Newsgroups~!

P.S.--Maybe, in the future--one of you will be able to explain too me about the "advanced" aspects of Newsgroups (posting messages, uploading files; etc)~!

zaijian~~

Erm, is this allowed?

Oh and newsgroups aren't REALLY for downloading films from, they're meant to be discussion forums etc. So posting to one should really be one of the basics...

Didn't think it was allowed to mention specific groups - or maybe French cartoons aren't copyrighted?

Many ISPs have been outsourcing their usenet server to giganews, seems to be working quite well

Posted by doctor zoidy on 12-21-2004 09:31 PM:

i've used rr's servers before...
normally i'd get about 2 days retention, 96-98% completion, and about 325KB d/l...
normally...

for about two weeks every two or three months, completion will drop to about 10%...

better than comcast's giganews... they had a 1GB/month cap for d/l when i tried to use them at my brother's house...

rr had no limits

Hehe, I can see where Newsgroups are going... down the shitter - all of the various ISPs outsource to Easynews, then the MPAA/RIAA sues Easynews, demanding that they remove all of the dodgy content and binary Newsgroups
